Title: What’s the most difficult thing about getting older?

I have to say aches. I heard my grandma and older people talk about aches, but I feel it sometimes.

     Keeping good looks!
Do you know what I mean?
     Gaining weight, dealing with
     wrinkles and brown spots
     and much more!

Getting wrinkles, frown lines, crows feet, bags under the eyes and gaining weight. You get sick a whole lot easier. :(

The wrinkles and the aches. Arthritis beats me up daily. I'm sure the pain doesn't help the wrinkles either. But I'm fighting it and won't give up trying to find the fountain of youth. LOL

I would say two things: One is becoming fearful of how bad it might get and the second is becoming more alone as you retire and friends and family members are lost.

As I watch my parents age, the thing Mom complains the most about is her lack of energy and desire to do things.  She ends up sitting around a lot.

Realizing every day there are activities that take me longer to do and some I can no longer do.   Losing friends and family members.   Of course I would rather continue getting older and deal with the issues than the alternative.   Life goes on.

So far, I have been enjoying old age tremendously. But, thank Heavens, I haven't yet been challenged with any of the physical problems so many of my friends my age have, like bad knees, bad backs, etc. Knock on wood. I am 70 years old and still able to run 15 miles a week and do whatever I please. I am sure that will come to a halt in the relatively near future, but until it does, I am going to enjoy every minute.

I agree with you. I've lost so many friends and family that it gets quite lonely. I can only hope I go first. My husband has friends. Mine are gone and being disabled, unable to drive, I would wind up being one of those people who die in the house and not found for weeks.  I do have 2 boys but they have their own life and I only hear or see them on Christmas Eve with whatever current girlfriend they're with.   i think they just can't get over the fact that I'm dependent on someone for going to the doctor or store since I've only been this way for going on 6 years. Up until then, I was totally independent and never needed to ask for help. :(

Honestly I would say losing loved ones and friends.  The older I get the more people I have lost - grandparents, parents, husband.   But it is a fact of life.  I guess wrinkles, hair color and all that takes a back seat for sure to losing people.  But we have to keep on keeping on and appreciate who and what we have left.

At almost 70 I feel I'm too young to be having some of the aches, pains and health issues I've been dealing with lately.  Hopefully a lot of them will pass but I know my arthritis won't.  I can't open a bottle of water most days;  thankfully my husband still can.

Your brain tells you that you can do things you used to do when you were 40 and your body  says you dummy.   I miss the days I could go all day long and half of the night and get up and do it all over. Yep at 74 those days are gone, the aches and pains are here to stay. But I refuse to  give up. I still volunteer 2 days a week at  a small charity,  help do yard work,  and of course all of the  things around the house. Still love to travel.

As long as you realize that getting old is not for sissies, there is nothing difficult about it. I just accept the way it is and get the most out of the ride I can.

I have to say aches. I heard my grandma and older people talk about aches, but I feel it sometimes.

Hello!  :D :)

I've been afraid of aging ever since I was younger. It all seems unattractive graying hair, wrinkles that never end, and of course all the lovely aches and pains. However, if you really think and put things into perspective then you will realize that there is always a time for everything. When you were youthful and attractive was the time to fulfill all your heart desires and old age was meant to slow down and reflect on the life you had and make the most of your time left. When you think about the alternative to being underground and not being part of anything then you begin to realize how blessed you are. :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:

I would have to say "body tightness" esp with cold dry weather(my lower right back as well as my right shoulder area) I tell ya there have been times during this winter that my entire upper right arm area was so tight that you think my right arm was fused to my side or I was wearing an invisible sling. When the weather was in the teens and below there were times when I was just using my elbow-hand and  the area had to constantly be in motion or up high for relief.  Not fun,not fun at all.

Lack of freedom to a higher degree. There are times where I just want to pick up and leave but remember that I have two kids in college that depend on me; two and a half well paying jobs that smolder out without me, a fifty year old jeep that is hard to start if she isn't loved everyday, two golden retrievers that look to me for their morning and evening walks, fusioncash (yep) and several other streams that need daily visits. Even getting away for a weekend is near impossible. I was sick for a week and it will take me two weeks to get caught up. I got back yesterday on the one job and had over one hundred and sixty e-mails. I had given thought to letting the night time job know that I am cleared to work again but I have been enjoying the small freedom and am hoping to whittle down the number of posts I need to catch up on!

I think there is a difference between beliefs and truth.

Last time i looked God told Adam he was going back to dust after death. Also Solomon said the dead are conscience of NOTHING.NON-existence.Jesus said Lazarus was sleeping i need to awaken him.

Oh thats right some of u dont support bible or re-write it.......my apologies for quoting it.References are gladly made if requested and dont do it ahead of time cos of lack of interest.

I think it depends on how each person views the aging process, and how it effects them; some people seem ageless in energy, look and just keep going while others have to slow their roles in all aspects of their lives; sometimes due to physically aliments; so I guest it just depends what challenges comes your way.

Your body starts to degrade in general. Not only do you get aches, years of use provides wear and tear on your knee and hip joints, etc. and you start to need operations for this and that to maintain your health.

The most difficult thing for me about getting older is not having as much energy as I did when I was younger.  Doing less of the things I enjoyed doing in my earlier days, but that's life.  Exercising does help with these issues.

I have a feeling your mot that old.... might i ask what your idea of old is ? I'm turning 60 next month and for me it's also boredom and lack of friends but I'm stuck at home and not by choice.
