Title: holiday foods - any day foods
Post by: Gerianne on November 19, 2015, 08:16:48 am
I like pumpkin pie.
I could eat it anytime of the year.
Once I had pumpkin soup, I order it again and again.
Soup is a category with a vast array of options.

some chefs don't make Waldorf salad with all the right ingredients.
there is only one recipe for Waldorf salad; any other recipe is imitation.

Yes, you don't have to wait for holidays (or birthdays) to eat certain foods.

I was mad for pumpkin bagels a few years back, but of course that's just seasonal.  :( Pumpkin pie I could eat anytime of the year, too. It's pie, for goodness sake!  I've been wondering if I could call Martin's or Kroger and request they make a vegan pumpkin pie. Whole Foods is a very long walk from here, and we already spent enough on that cab fare last week! Love me some peppermint bark bars, too.  :in-love:

My fave holiday foods would be the cookies.  I LOVE making the Gingerbread Men (or teddy bears) & the decorated cut-out cookies!!

There is a lot of Holiday food I could eat year round.  There are some foods that are not traditional holiday foods but I will only make during the holidays.  a) they may be a lot of work, so a "special" occasion b) too many calories to have more than once a year!

Saving something like pumpkin pie for the holidays makes it feel like a special treat. But, I totally agree, I could eat pumpkin pie all year long.

I haven't had Waldorf salad in years.  First time I had it my Aunt made it when I was a child and I really liked it.  I am like you I could eat pumpkin pie year round but I have never had pumpkin soup but I would probably like it.

Sure! My husband and I started having a mini-Thanskgiving during the spring. It was fun to bring back a few of our favorite Thanksgiving dishes and enjoy a good meal with friends.

I say, if you love pumpkin pie you can enjoy it all year.

Simply fill half of your plate non-starchy veggies like salad, broccoli, carrots, or Brussels sprouts. Then fill one-fourth of the plate with starchy foods like sweet potatoes, a whole wheat roll, roasted root veggies, or corn casserole. The last fourth can be filled with a lean protein, like roasted turkey breast, chicken without the skin, or fish

Stuffing.  I could eat that year round with the gravy.  YUM!
I also like pumpkin coffee with whipped cream, & anything gingerbread.

Of course, I could eat any of this year round... but then it wouldn't be so special this time of year. :)
Oh, and I'd be FAT. :)

Turkey is something I can eat all year. Unfortunately, it's usually expensive, or not always available in the stores, so I end up waiting for Thanksgiving to enjoy it.

I like deviled eggs. Seems like I only have them on Thanksgiving but could definitely eat them more often.

Macaroni and cheese, ham, string beans, are all everyday foods, I cook these sometimes during the year. Stuffing, turkey and gravy are also everyday foods I eat on the holidays.

We have basically the same meal for the 3 big holidays.  So we get a fix on them every few months.  We all make different parts of the dinner, so it is easy to stay the same always with some seasonal variations.
