Title: a great camera at a great price

I am looking for a DSLR camera for my daughter's birthday.  Does anyone have any suggestions on which camera may be best for shooting clear video and precise stills?

There are many great cameras, but the best one certain doesn't have a great price! I think a Canon rebel is pretty good, from what I've seen, although I've never actually tried it out myself. The quality on cameras is constantly getting greater and greater, and any DSLR, even entry level ones, can produce good photos..
