The "news" has become nothing more than "entertainment" at this juncture.  Once upon a time it was "real news" but since the OBAMA ADMINISTRATION it's now just a bunch of malarkey cause THEY DICTATE WHAT THE JOURNALISTS CAN AND CANNOT REPORT.

The news is not the same, since they are on 24 hours a day on many channels they have a lot of filler garbage.  They also repeat the same thing over and over and over.  I watch about 30 minutes a day and have just as good a grasp as some of the news junkies who watch all the time.  Also, a lot of what is put out there is just some guys opinion, not the news, it's what they think of the news.   If you think that the news is biased towards one party or the other, you just have to switch the channel to the other biased in your way.

No, I usually don't watch the news.  It's too negative.  I agree with Dr Andrew Weil that it's not good for us.  It's been getting worse and worse for a long time, not just the past several years.  It forces us to witness such horrific things.  It's not healthy.   :P :angry7:

I mostly watch local news now. I hardly ever watch world news anymore because it's so depressing and full of violence as of late.

I watch Fox 13 News and I usually read about certain events on a specific website.  There is enough negativity in the news; however, I've learned to detach and observe so I'm not emotionally involved.

It's important to me to know.....

what's happening locally and around the world.

I watch the news; having been raised by my grandmother, it was a daily rendition.  She would then scold me when the 10 pm news came on because when I called her, she generally would be asleep.  I am like that today.  I watch the news in the morning, at 12 noon and either the 5 or 6 pm news.  When I miss either, I then would stay up an extra 30 minutes to watch the 10 pm news.   :rainbow:

Post by: countrygirl12 on April 09, 2014, 05:46:25 am
Mostly I just read it on yahoo and then hit the local sites.  I read the headlines and then the story if I am interested.  I have family who sits and watches Fox News 24-7.  I swear I would be suicidal.  She is like 'oh it is funny to watch them argue back and forth' and I am thinking it's no wonder you are freaking physco. lol

Yes, I do.  I like the morning news and the evening news. Small amounts at a time but enough to keep me informed.
If something big is going on in the community or in the world I will watch a little extra.  My husband would watch 24/7
if he could!

Sometimes. But it's rather depressing. I mean, yeah, it's important to report on things like crime, but it's equally important to report on the brighter side as well. I think the news reporters should go out and look for good news instead of just waiting on bad news to come to them to report.
Title: Re: do you watch the news

I watch the local news, even if they are 170 miles away Also some fox news then I just get disgusted with the national news channels as they are so biased toward any one but the liberals and democrats. Only report just certain things and then it is over and over.

I have three TVs in my office tuned to separate news channels, on all day long but with no sound (turn on sound if there is a big story breaking) but I get my news mainly from the Dow wire service that prints out all day...

Rarely. The news to me is hand picked propaganda, sensationalized garbage, and skewed presentation of facts all for profit. I don't believe the news is truly about keeping the public informed. It just keeps getting worse too it seems. I especially refuse to watch Fox News. It's a bunch of far right garbage as far as I'm concerned.

Fox News is the only national news that is worth watching.  All of the rest are totally biased for the President and his cohorts.  I watch the local news also.

We've been Fox News and Fox Business News fans for years but since I had our Directv disconnected we don't watch as much news.  My husband listens to talk-radio most days to keep up with the political news and we do have local channels so we can listen to the local news when we want to.

In the evening I watch the local news while I'm eating supper.  Then I see what the headlines are on the world news.  If there's something interesting, I'll watch.  If not, then I turn off the TV.  The world news has too much about all the fighting in the foreign countries.  That doesn't interest me.  What happened to all the feel-good stories?!!!

No. I don't watch MSM BS, which is basically what American news is. I do follow news sources online though. Independent news sources aren't as prevalent as they absolutely should be so when I find good/decent ones, I stick with them. I do also read some of the garbage being spewed by the bought-and-paid-for "sources" because I feel it's necessary to keep one's eyes on all that's available.

No I don't watch the news on tv. It's interesting because some family members and I were just discussing this topic. I want to be informed of what's going on but I don't like hearing all the bad news that comes with it. If I catch any news, it's usually when I'm online, which is often. I might see a headline that catches my interest and click it on, but I definitely don't watch the local news. My husband keeps me informed sometime of what's going on so that's good enough for me.

I find that I watch news on TV a lot less than I used to.  I do watch the weather channel daily and they work some news into their broadcast, which seems to be enough for me as so much on the news stations are political in nature and I get so tired of politics.  I read our local newspaper, look at the highlights on Bing, and check out a few things with my phone apps.

I watch about 2 1/2 hours of news just about every day, sometimes even more. The news I find most interesting is from the BBC and from PBS Newshour. They carry news from around the world and in more depth than the regular commercial channels do which I like a lot better. Lately, the national news has been taking up too much time discussing the weather around the country rather than reporting on the hard news from around the world, which is why I turn to PBS to get the real scoop about world events.

I haven't had tv service for the past year and 3 months so I never watch news.  I come across stuff on the internet occasionally but try to steer clear of it because most of it is so stressful.  I did read recently that if a person watches news and reads a newspaper daily their life expectancy goes down WOW so i guess it is stressful.

I do not watch the news. For one thing, I don't have time. For another, with the invention of the internet it is completely unnecessary. I can now read or watch about the things that I find relevant rather than having to sit through news reports that do not have any relevance in my life.

No wonder my parents didn't ever watch it with us in the room growing up. I've heard of several people not watching the news until around 10 when the kids were asleep, and probably only for the weather. I watch  it sometimes during the day like a cnn, but never keep it on for hours.

I tend to get more of my news from listening to the radio while I drive into work, and if there is some major story, I'll go on-line to read more about it from there. I don't have an issue with the violence as much as I do with the bias that all of the different stations have. There really isn't any objective journalism anymore, whether it be in terms of the actual writing / presenting of a story or even in the "metadata" like editors choosing which stories to present, how long of a time given to each story, the types of commentators they bring on to discuss a story, etc. And the bias isn't always based on political affiliation either; often the news is "Americanized" in that they'll only present stories that appeals to most Americans rather than the importance of the story to the world in general. I find it better to get an idea of the major stories going on and then searching for the facts on-line (as best as possible) in order to make my own conclusions.
