Title: Stephen King fans
Post by: handllucas on September 21, 2012, 01:12:24 pm
Are there any Stephen King fans out there - that have actually READ the books?

I have almost the complete collection and find that many people make the judgement that his work is 'scary'.

I find that his work is strange and different, but not really horrific or scary.

What does everyone else think?

I like most of Stephen Kings Novels, and movies. Some movies were well over done with no real climax. Later I learned that he took his name off some of the movies because the writers and producers did not stay within his guide lines. Love him for doing that.

I think the first Stephen King book I read was The Tommyknockers, many years ago.  I've been a fan ever since.

Late last night and the night before,
Tommyknockers, Tommyknockers knocking at my door.
I want to go out but I don't believe I can,
'cause I'm afraid of the Tommyknocker man.

May not be word for word, but I have remembered that all these years.

i've been reading Stephen King since my short stint as a jr high English teacher.  My eight-grade students were passing around a book called, "Carrie," and they were reading that copy to tatters.  I had to find out what all the fuss was about--and that's how I got hooked.  BTW, Mr. King just turned 65 on the 21st.  Many happy returns of the day, sir.

I like Stephen King.  My favorite book from him so far is "It".

I am more of a movie watcher than a reader so all of my King experiences have been through the films based on his work.  For me, they range from very good to just fair.  The Shining would be my favorite.

I like Stephen King, very prolific writer with a lot of imagination. I am also a huge horror buff, but my favorite King novel isn't horror at all, Eyes of the Dragon.

I've only read one of his books and it scared me as much as anything I've ever read.  I then made the mistake of watching the movie because I already knew what was coming.  Big mistake!!!!

I've read and enjoyed many (almost all?) of his books...although a little behind on the more recent ones.

I too enjoyed both "The Tommyknockers" and "It" enormously.

The Shining was also a GREAT book (which both movie attempts pretty much ruined).

I like his short stories, too.
