Let's talk about the good things that have happened in bad situations.

That's a good subject, and one often overlooked.  While they're impossible to predict, good things can arise from bad situations, (just as bad things can result from "good" situations - one never can tell and assuming that only good can come from good or, that bad comes from bad is an assumptive error).

For instance, many years back I was able to pay cash for a brand new car, (and I got lots of options with it).  So, there I was, tooling down a two-lane suburban street about 4 months after that purchase when suddenly, a large passenger van's driver slammed on his brakes in the middle of the road.  No obstructions - he just decided he needed to make a sudden left, (no turn-lane, no stop sign or signals).  I tried to swerve into the right lane but, there were two cars already occuppying that escape-route and I couldn't swerve right, into on-coming traffic so there was nowhere to go.  Except forward.  Clipping his right-rear bumper in a last-ditch avoidance manuever, my new car flipped over onto the roof and began spinning down the road upside-down at speed.  Apparently, the rapid rotation caused me to thwack my skull on the gear-shift and I was briefly unconscious until the car had come to a complete stop later.  Upon regaining consciousness, I noticed that the car's engine was still running, (oddly enough) and I reached "up" to the steering column to turn off the ignition.

Anyhow, aside from a few bumps & bruises, (and a totalled new car), I was fine.  So, that's a "bad" situation except that my insurance company sued the crap out of the guy with the van and completely replaced my car out of my insurance coverage.  The settlement was substantial enough to considerr this an example of something good arising from a bad situation.

My dad married a woman when I was younger (I was around 16). She definitely classified as a wicked step mother. She made sure I was kicked out by 19. I've always been a good person. I always had good grades, and I put myself through college. I can't say that my life has been peaches and roses because it hasn't. She definitely made it even more challenging, but actually two good things came out of that. One, it taught me to be self-reliant and resilient, and two, she IS very dedicated to my dad and now that I am in my 30s, I can see she will take care of him in his old age as she is considerably younger than he is. I learned to love her and forgive her for how mean she was (sometimes is) to me. I'm currently unemployed after accumulating $150k of student loans and 8 years of college with a professional degree. It is very disheartening, but life is not always fair.

that's true life isn't always fair but we gotta make the most out of it. What we thought when we were younger won't be the same when we get older. Diffreent perceptions as we get more and mature.....  ;)
