Kids or Partner

Do you know of someone that chose their spouse, girlfriend/boyfriend, life partner over their own kids?

Not personally, but I'm sure that happens frequently. 

Sometimes there might even be a good reason, don't you think?

Frequently? I didn't think it happened all that much and in those instances where it does, it would be pretty selfish. I mean, what would be a good reason to choose somebody else over your own kids?

Not personally, but I'm sure it happens all the time...kids grow up without the role models

It happens more than you think. Why do you think there are so many kids in foster care?

I haven't. Among my friends, people always choose kids over others, especially when kids are young.

I have never understood how a Mother can choose a partner over the child/children.  That man can walk out on you but your kids are still there and they can be very unforgiving.  I do know of some who do things like that.  All for a man.  SMDH

I think you need to be a little bit more specific or limiting in your question. If the kids are still children/dependents - that is one thing, but if the kids are adults - it is still very possible for a parent to "choose" a significant other over their kids. And in some/many circumstances, there is nothing wrong with that choice at all. In fact, you could say that the "selfish" behavior is when the kids force the parent to make a choice.


If the kids are young and still at home - then you may have a better argument for your point.
