legalize full auto guns
« on: October 29, 2009, 06:38:35 am »
I think that the us goverment should legalize all so called machine guns.
Currently to own a machine gun the person who wants a machine gun has to jump through so many hoops and have to pay 200 dollars in taxes for each fullauto gun. there is so many hoops to jump threw people jut dream about owning these guns rather than going threw with it.
so I want to here the views of you other people .

At one time, a few years ago. a person was able to obtain a federal license to own a machine gun. Should they be legalized for everyone to use at their discretion? I don't think so. It would make it too easy for psychos to obtain too many of them and go on massive sprees of destruction. Imagine if machine guns were legal and easy to obtain, the type of violence that it would be.

While I respect your right to have the opinion of legalizing auto guns, it terrifies me to imagine that becoming a reality.  The thought of anyone having rapid-fire capabilities in the midst of rage or a psychotic break is uncomprehendable.

Yeah as much as I love guns and the 2nd amendment, I have a lot of difficulty with the legalization of full-auto weapons. It's like giving robbers, gangsters, and psychos a handicap because they usually can't shoot worth a damn in the first place. But having them spray n' pray probably increases their chances of not only hitting their target but everything around them.

There are too many psychos, fools, criminals and wanna be bad asses out there to legalize such an ill conceived idea of machine guns.

Everyone should be able to pass a spelling and grammar test before they should be able to purchase a gun.  That would solve a lot of problems right there.

Eh not necessarily. An intelligent person can still have mental disorders like depression etc.

What??? With all the violence in this world that would be insane. It is already crazy that so many people feel it is necessary to even own a gun / hand gun. Many guns beside those own by police are not even used as a means of protection, instead it is used for an act of violence - robbery, murder .... etc.

Well let's PLEASE not turn this into another for-gun vs. ban-gun thread, but for the record personal firearms are used massively as a form of protection by average citizens all over the US. These stories of protection usually aren't highlighted in the news or shows though (Worlds WILDEST Robberies or anything like that) and make guns look like a pointless/bad freedom only used by the bad guys. Don't fall for what TV tells you!

err there's a reason you have to jump so through many loops.  And it's not to annoy you.

Anyone who seriously argues that -- in a modern society with the structure of inner cities and social classes we have -- there should absolutely no checks on who has fully automatic weapons is an idealist in the purest form.  Frankly, a dangerous idealist.

Virginia Tech could have been prevented by a single background check of Seung-Hui Cho.

32 people could be here today...by a single background check.

The deadliest peacetime shooting incident by a single gunman in United States history could have been prevented...by a single background check.

There are loops you have to jump through for a reason.

What??? With all the violence in this world that would be insane. It is already crazy that so many people feel it is necessary to even own a gun / hand gun. There are many perfectly legitimate reasons to own a firearm.
