AIM doesn't charge you unless you sign up for full service.  You can receive calls if your logged into AIM otherwise it goes to voicemail.  You can't make outgoing calls unless you pay for the service.

How do you sign up for just the voicemail service on AIM? I just tried and can't figure it out.  :dontknow:  When I try to sign up it asks me how much credit i want to add. $10 or $25.

Madd4Money mentioned www.aim.com. I signed up for that and got myself a local area code phone number, so I am good to go now that PrivatePhone is getting discontinued. Its certainly worth a shot for everyone to check it out and see if they can get a local phone number! If you cant, other members have brought up some other alternatives......laserphone, etc....

The AIM service doesn't appear to be free.  :(  I'm going to continue using my PrivatePhone number until it expires.

How could it not be free?? You view your phone messages in your emails? Do you pay to read your emails? You never have to dial a phone in order to retrieve your messages. Please elaborate.

Oh, I see....you are reading the section that says if you want to upgrade your aim service, then yes, you have to pay. Just get the basic service! Thats all you need! A number that you can provide when filling out offers thats legit and a way in which to listen to them at a time thats convienant for you! You dont need any bells and whistles!

Sorry, but what do you mean by how do you do that? And do you have to pay for anything? If you are talking about status under our names, it is done by the number of posts you post. See, Im a big mouth, so I post a lot so after 100 posts I hit Full Member status. Pretty sad that thats all it takes to me happy, huh?

I put in the search for a aim phoneline free and I got their website which says they are focusing their efforts n a new program called aim call out which they want me to pay for. I guess they aren't letting new members have aim phoneline?

I know I can't find anything for the basic free service either. Everything is for the new Call Out...
