Food Giveaways
« on: November 18, 2020, 08:03:59 am »
Watching the news this morning, a place was giving away food, not your regular canned and dried food, but produce and meat along with the usual foods. One Cadillac Escalade got 6 boxes of stuff. Next car in line was a Lincoln. So many new and expensive vehicles. The people that drive those vehicles should be ashamed to be taking these items. They are supposed to be for the poor and hungry.  If they need food, they should sell those expensive vehicles first. They can trade down. Then if they still need food, get in line.

We drive a 1998 Buick that has electrical problems. We've owned it since 2003. If we forget to remove the battery cables, the battery is dead next morning. So hubby made up a switch that you turn off and turn on the the cable. Don't know what or how he did it but it works! The only thing that works now is the heater and windows but we can't afford a newer vehicle. But, as long as the car runs, we'll have to keep it. Don't know what we'll do if it dies.  I guess we'll find out if that happens.   ;)

If they can afford those expensive cars, then they can afford to buy their own groceries.  It is the same way with food stamps.  People who don't need them get them and the people who really do need them doesn't get any or just a small amount.  Some people are just greedy.

You should be ashamed for judging people.  They had a food distribution for my area a while back as well.  There was no income limit.  It was for anyone and everyone.  They had boxes left over that they had nothing to do with.  I am curious as to how you know how many boxes these other cars had?  Were you in line?  You should be ashamed for asking for a hand out!   Maybe you should get a job if you want food.  Oh you have one?  Then if you need more money for food you should get another one.  Pay your own way!

You say they need to sell their cars so they can buy their own food.  Maybe you should sell your car and buy your own food!  You need to go somewhere you can walk.  Or buy a bike.

Maybe, just maybe those people were picking up boxes for someone else?  Every think of that?  No you are too busy judging others.  I am curious - how many boxes did YOU get?  I am sure you got the max you were allowed.

Wow.  So many judgmental people.  If these people are greedy then so are you.  Maybe they bought the car and then lost their job.  Are you jealous because someone has something better than you?  You can't get food stamps unless your income meets the guidelines.  I do agree it is not fair how some people can only get $15 a month and others get way more than any normal person can use. Honestly the food stamps should be a set amount.  If you qualify you get it.  And everyone should get the same amount no matter how many are in your family. And what kind of car you have does not play in to it.  Most times when you go off judging someone you do not have all the facts.  And it is nothing to you anyway.  If the distribution is like the one that was in my area it was for any one who wanted a box. Income did not play in to it.  No one was asked and everyone could get the same amount.  SO why would you be mad if somebody got a box that had more money than you do?  You still got your box.  The one locally there were a bunch of boxes left and I don't know what they ended up doing with them.  I am sure it was the same way here.  People who were there asking for a hand out were mad because someone with more money than them or a better car than them were also getting a box. People amaze me.

I will agree that there are people who just want more and more and no matter what they get they still want more.  I think I started a thread a long time ago about that very thing.  Being a part of a distribution and the people standing in line done nothing but complain.  They should provide chairs for us to sit in.  They need to move faster so I don't have to stand here.  One guy even complained saying this is not enough food.  I can eat all of this in a week.  Well you fat hog if you would eat like a normal person it should last you a lot longer.  Not a month like they say but it def would last longer than one week.  I am sure there were others complaining about how this one or that one does not deserve it.  I did not hear those remarks.  I know one woman who was there in line has a pretty good job and she probably got judged for being there. But if anybody thought it was their business and wanted to ask her she was there picking up a box for an elderly gent who was not able to come stand in line.  And as far as what you see just because somebody takes a shower, cleans up, fixes their hair, and puts on clean clothes and drives what appears to be a decent car does not mean they are rich.  And saying they need to sell their clothes or their car is beyond foolish.

I'm not going to judge.  Just because they have a nice car doesn't mean they don't need help. Maybe they lost their job, the car is paid off and they are living in their car.  Yup I'm sure there are greedy people in those lines to that don't need the food they just want to get something for free but they'll get their karma just like everyone else.

There are people in need and there are people who are greedy. I am not personally able to tell the difference just by looking at them. There have been several times in my own life where I have had no money at all and no credit card to fall back on and a next to empty refrigerator until the next payday (which was not a regular specific date, but instead was whenever my company got money for a project where I would receive a cut - could be next week or could be in 2-3 months). From outward appearances, I still drove a nice car (not luxury, but nice), had what most who didn't know the circumstances would have assumed was a good paying job, and I guarantee you that none of my friends or associates knew the dire financial straits I was in. A free meal or food donation would have been a welcome blessing in those times. But I also know I probably would have been seen and recognized by someone or else I would have been labeled.

Countrygirl for your information no I did not get a food box because I am one who will usually donate food.  I have no problem with people getting the food if they need it.  No I am not jealous of what anyone has because the bible says not covet your neighbor.

If it is free and there are no income limits and it is for everyone then why should anyone be called greedy for getting the same thing everyone else is getting.  You could call the person who gets loads of food stamps greedy for asking for even more handouts. I just don't get it. There is a local guy that is down right rich.  He has plenty of money.  But when we had a soup kitchen (far as I know it closed a couple years ago) he would go every evening and eat a meal.  I would shake my head at that but never called him greedy.  They had plenty of food.  To the point that food was thrown out at the end of the night.  They never had to turn anybody away.  SO what difference does it make if he went and ate.

Are you looking for a pat on the back? The Bible also says not to judge others. Maybe go back and read what you said.  "If they can afford those expensive cars they can afford their own food".  You do not know other people's situations.  ::)

Kinda reminds me of when some say,"God loves us unconditionally".

OH really"God told Adam and Eve if they ate from the tree of knowledge they would die if they disobeyed.Wasnt that a condition?

God told Lot and his wife and others not to look back at Sodom being destroyed.Lots wife disobeyed and looked back and was turned into a pillar of salt. Was NOT looking back a condition?

I dont think i need to put more up.The condition is your freedom of choice to obey Jehovahs rules if we want to live under peace and righteous condititons.

Prov 14:12 English Standard Version
There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.

Valuable to obey what God says. And in these trying times with the virus there is much valuable info on JW.org how we should handle it.

The other day my husband and i went to a food drive we drive a used toyota rav4 2008. It looks brand new. My husband like many due to covid lost his job. We shouldn't judge people by looks,or material matter it could be a lease, like other say a borrowed car. And half the food we recieved we give to elderly neighbor. Or people we know that can use it we are in are 50s and its only us. so its alot of food 1 bag of potatoes last us months. And when you get two or more stuff we give back. all the time. :)
