what to talk about?
« on: September 12, 2020, 07:08:32 am »
I try every day to to find something of interest to chat about or comment on.  I am tired of the politics, and Covid 19.  Seems that we can find something else to chat about.  I just can't think of a thing.  The weather?  I don't think so. It has been pretty boring here.  Been raining for about a week.  Makes me want to sleep.    Sp, really.  How is everyone doing?  What keeps you entertained for your day?

I'm beyond tired of those subjects too, seems all anyone's spoken about for 6 months. I for one am enjoying my gardening and the approach of fall weather. I wish you'd send some of that rain my way!

I just joined "NextDoor" a neighborhood site, multiple countries, US.

You can limit your exposure to just your closest neighborhood or go for the whole town!  Postings on selling and free items, news and you can "mute" the posts you don't want to see.

Nextdoor
https://nextdoor.com
Nextdoor is the neighborhood hub for trusted connections and the exchange of helpful information, goods, and services. Join your neighborhood.

Nextdoor by the numbers
+ 11 countries
+ 265,000 neighborhoods globally
+ 1 in 4 U.S. households
+ 50 million local business recommendations from neighbors

Everyone is a neighbor
We recognize that thriving communities are more than just residents. They’re also made up of the local businesses, nonprofits and public agencies that keep our neighborhoods strong and connected.

Residents: Connect with the people you wave or nod to in your neighborhood. Now you can know their names and chat online.

Local businesses: Instantly reach your most valuable customers — your neighbors — and become a trusted member of the neighborhood.

Nonprofits: Engage with the people who need you most and find support from donors nearby with features like Sell for Good.

Public agencies: Share critical, real-time information directly at the neighborhood level.

Brands: Provide locally relevant products and services that improve neighbors’ daily lives.

How we’re different
Real people at real addresses — Connect with neighbors who have verified their identity; they’re the same people you wave to on the block.

If it’s happening nearby you’ll hear about it — You’re automatically connected to everyone nearby, and whether you need to find a local pro or a lost dog, you can reach out to neighbors in an instant.

Your privacy is our priority — We do not share your name, address or email with advertisers, and your conversations will not be indexed by search engines. We are committed to building trust with neighbors every day.

This day is going crappy so far when it comes to dealing crappy people. I'm not a confrontational person but that may soon change when comes to handling situations. And as of late, chatting with old school friends is keeping me entertained in addition to other things.

Here's another great way to find topics (more general in nature) to get your 30 post min each month:

https://www.quora.com/

The have interesting topics going on like these today:

What are the lessons people most often learn too late in life?

Steve Jobs, Jobs's last words. He died of a billionaire at 56 years old from pancreatic cancer, and here are his last words on a sick bed: ′′I reached the peak of success in the business world. My life is the epitome of success in the opinion of others. But, I have nothing to be happy about except work. In the end, wealth is just a reality of life that I am used to.
It was then, lying on a sick bed reminiscing my whole life, I realized all the recognition and the wealth that I was very proud of, became pale and meaningless in the face of the impending death.

You can hire someone to drive for you and make money for you, but you can't make someone else take the illness from you. Lost substance can be found. But there is one thing that can never be found when lost -”life".

When a person enters the operating room, he will find that there is a book that has not yet been read - ′′ The Healthy Living Book ". No matter what stage of life we are in right now, over time we will face the day when the curtain falls. Cherish the family that loves you, love your spouse, love your friends... be kind to yourself.

As we age, we gradually realize that wearing a $300 or $30 watch - they all tell me at the same time.

Whether we carry $300 or $30 purse / handbag - the money inside is the same.

What are the scariest real life pictures?

If you’ve never seen this picture, it probably appears innocent to you.
The problem is the two boys in the top left.
They’re pointing finger guns at the camera.
Those boys are Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold,[1]also known as the Columbine shooters.
The pair already had their future massacre planned and methodically documented when this school photo was taken— that was probably the inspiration for their poses.[2]
Only a few weeks later, they went on to follow through on their plan and shot twelve of their classmates dead, before committing suicide shortly after.[3]
Now, years later, this photo remains a chilling reminder of tragedy and an example of real-life foreshadowing.

I like to look back on YouTube  about the fifties.  Suppose to be a great time for most.  You could leave you4 door open,go outside and play all day.  Didn't worry about muggings or your house being broken into.  Wait I'm making myself sick. Things are never as good as you think.

I agree! The past couple of weeks I've been starting topics on anything I can think of that's not the standard, biased political BS. I took a week or so off from posting here because I needed a break.

Speaking of the weather, the West Coast is on fire! The skies are hazy and red in states from the North to the South. It's sad to see! And there's no expected rain.   :-\
Opinion: 1) a view, judgment, or appraisal formed in the mind about a particular matter 2) belief stronger than impression and less strong than positive knowledge
This is the internet, learn to let people have opinions. And don't be so sensitive.  8)

I think we all are, when I talk with family and friends via text, phone or video chat we just talk about each others well being and try to stay away from all the talk we hear and see 24/7 on TV.

I try to participate in conversations that are not depressing or controversial, which is why I try to steer clear of anything COVID-19-related or politically-driven. But, as someone else pointed out, it is difficult to do so when nearly 50% of the threads on this forum fall into one of these two categories. :)
