VEC Unemployment Mess
« on: July 20, 2020, 03:06:25 pm »
There are so many issues with people getting their benefits and people are complaining. Going to the news, emailing the company, and downright frustrated.

I know what you mean! There are going to be multiple lawsuits related to Covid19 and
Pandemic Unemployment benefits. Who is to blame when you do not have a paycheck?

They could, oh, I don't know, GET JOBS!   Most companies are complaining because they can't get employees to come back to work because they make more money drawing unemployment thanks to the government handouts.
The company HR is foolish though. All they have to do is turn in "I called this person back to work and they refuse to come" and their unemployment is stopped.  A lot of the people complaining are not suppose to be getting benefits anyway.  A guy in my state was crying because they kept denying him. After knowing his story it is like "YOU DON'T QUALIFY" You have not worked in almost 2 years and have nothing paid in on you. It is not that hard to understand. But I am learning most are clueless as to how unemployment works. Like the people who say it is their money and came out of their check. NO MONEY comes out of your check. The company pays in to the unemployment. Not the employee ::)

lol Who are they going to sue? Go get a job!  There are jobs available.  It just is not jobs most want to do.  I don't want to work in fast food or retail but if it were down to my kids are hungry or I am going to lose my home then I think I would take a job I did not really want to do. So to answer the question - Who is to blame when you don't have a paycheck? YOU ARE! Most places are saying they can't get anybody to work.

You're right about that. But if your job calls you back you have to go back to work. I know someone that was getting more money from unemployment and she id a waitress. Her job called back and she went back but didn't want to but had to.

Right. But some people are refusing to go back. And if their employer does not report them they get to continue to sit on their butt and draw the big check.  So they make less money.  Boo freakin hoo.  What about the people who had to continue to make their part time low salary through all this?  Nobody felt sorry for them.  I know people personally who are riding the freebie train and will not go back to work until they exhaust their benefits. And are so mad they can't stand it because that extra $600 is about to expire and cursing Trump.  Get off your butt and get a job!  Or keep lying and draw the state amount you were suppose to be getting.  And at least in my area the ones drawing unemployment have been on a wild ride vacation. They go every where and do whatever.  They did not stay at home.  That is what makes me wonder about how contagious it really is.  Because if it was that bad the whole county would have it.  Although I did find out this morning a couple of my neighbors are sick with it now.

There is a family run restaurant that always is a full restaurant.   We went (or tried to) last weekend.  As we pulled up the parking lot was empty but the owner was outside.  We stopped and asked why weren't they open.  Can you believe this.....he said with his staff getting unemployment and $600 a week, no one would come back to work until the money was over.  He said he just fired all staff, as most were with him for 8+ years he thought of them as family and they treated him like that    He is trying to hire a full staff, but if he can't he will have to close.  That is so sad as it was a family type restaurant great food, fair prices.

He should not have fired them. Now they can continue to get the big bucks. People need to LISTEN to what they are being told. It was on the news, at least for my state, any employer who was having issues getting the deadbeats to come back to work - just turn in to the state that the employee had been called back to work and they refused to come.  Their benefits would be stopped immediately. THEN when they say oh well I will come back now - you tell them sorry your position was filled by someone else when YOU refused to come back to work.  If he just fired them they can probably continue to draw.  And honestly I am afraid they will either extend the $600 a week or still give a bonus but reduced which is still good money.  These lazy deadbeats can lay around the house for close to a year.  The hilarious thing is gonna be when tax time comes and they find out they have to pay taxes on all that money.  I know people who are not having anything withheld from their money so when they file their taxes they will owe it then.  And even if they are having it withheld if they do not take out enough they will owe at the end of the year.  So then they will all be crying all over the internet about how they got cheated.

Are you serious?  For some reason I thought the $600 was free money.  Sooooo they have to pay taxes on it 😁. I know a girl who hours were cut and she’s getting she is getting the $600 plus partial unemployment.  She has said many times I never had so much money, I’m loving this.  She’s spending money like it was water, I bet she has no idea she will be hit next tax time.

Yes, I am serious. No, it is not free money. I never even thought about the partial unemployment and they get the $600.  That makes me mad. Has she never drawn unemployment? It plainly tells you that it is taxable income and you will be required to claim it on your taxes. And THEY will send you a (I think) 1099g with the amount on it. That is the thing, these people have never had so much money to blow. I would be saving or trying to pay off any debt. I too know people who have lived the high life. Spending money like it grows on trees.  And there are people who never stopped working, and working a part time job, and it is sickening to see how people who refuse to work have so much money and the one working the part time job struggles to have what they need. I hope they cut it out completely.

No she never had unemployment before.  I don’t begrudge anyone spending money if it’s earned.  She goes to the Amish market (lives in Lancaster PA) and buys things like a loaf of bread for $6, apple butter with pecans for $15 a jar, and the list continues.  Amazon is probably at her house every day.  She is loving this and has said I never had so much money before.  Now she’s furious because the $600 is ending!

The whole $600 a week frustrates me.  That is more than a lot of folks earn working full-time throughout this pandemic.  Essential workers have been working through it all, earning less than those sitting on their behinds.
