Balloon Boy Story

Has anyone heard about the story of the family who thought their son floated away in their home made weather balloon and how he was really hiding in the attic? Well now they are getting criminal charges! They think that they did this on purpose to get publicitiy for two reasons

A.) They were on a reality TV Show
B.) On an interview, when asking the little boy why (He was only like 4 or 6) He said "For the Show"

Anyones opinions on the balloon boy story? XD

Yes, I cannot believe that the parents created a hoax and involved their childeren.  I have no idea what the parents must have been thinking when they cooked this up?  Thousands and thousands of dollars were spent on the rescue efforts.  Service at the airport was also disrupted.  It would be interesting to find out what punishment they will face and maybe find out more about what led them to do this.  I guess the parents were convinced that nobody would find out or what they were doing was ok?

OMG i was so scared for the little boy! i thought he was going to fall out of the balloon which i found out later that he was not even in there.

When I first heard about this story, I though the whole thing was bazar.  My question during the whole thing was why would the little boy stay hid for so long.  Was it 3 or 5 hours?  I have never seen a little boy that age be able to stay put for the amount of time.  The whole family just seems weird.  It is crazy that they would cook something like this up and they should have to pay for all of the wasted help from the rescue crews.

its HIGHLY CORNY of them to make such a move for fame , i mean the father himself doesnt look like he has head screwed on right in the first place , him alone would probaly do a reality show , i hope the state charges them

I think that they should make the family pay for the cost of the efforts that were involved.  They scrambled a Blackhawk helicopter for the hoax........does that father even know how much it costs to get one of those aircrafts up? Well I do and it costs upwards of $1,000.00 PER MINUTE......HE SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF HIMSELF!!!!

yes, i was going to my yahoo mail and i saw what i thought was an awful story, until i realized that it was a complete scam and i hope the parents have to pay for all the efforts those people made to help him.

I thought the same thing. 6 year old boys can't stay put for 5 minutes during hide and seek. Did they have him locked up somewhere?
Someone should also be looking in on those kids. If you are so willing to make your kids lie to police, you don't care too much about them. Did anyone see the poor kid throwing up when they were being interviewed? Probably stress.
If you have seen the Wife Swap with them on it, they brag about chasing tornadoes with their kids.
It goes without saying that they should have to pay back all the money they cost everyone.

I also think the news needs to Quit covering it. They are giving them the attention they wanted in the first place.

I read that the father is convinced that the world is ending in 2012, and he wanted to make the most of the time left.  I read some other things about them that seem to be just plain odd or weird.  Not to be mean, but I think he/they may have some mental issues or disorders.  It is what it is.  There is much more to them than just this story, it seems.

has it been confirmed that this was really a hoax?  I mean, I know all of the major news media are reporting it as such, but have we had any word from officials, such as the police or similar, that it was? We have all seen the media go on a witch hunt with a witch before, so its a little early, in my opinion, to jump on this band wagon.

However, for those among us that do wish to see the family be punished, you should get a sense of Schadenfreude in knowing that the FAA has interest and intent in serving them rather large fines for all the rules and regulations that the unregistered balloon flight broke.

first off, how would a six year old be able to Un-Tether (not cut, but untether) it, and be able to crawl in without it floating away before hand...
