Laptops and Chromebooks
« on: June 23, 2020, 07:48:48 am »
I'm looking at getting a laptop, but I have no idea what to get. I don't need anything super fancy, but I want it to be fast with a backlit keyboard. I love Macbooks, but they're way out of my budget.

Any recommendations? Also does anyone have a Chromebook, and how is it different than a traditional laptop?

I looked into Chromebooks last time I was laptop shopping, and I ended up passing because it didn't look like you could use any other browsers on it. For my job I needed to be able to see how things looked on multiple browsers so that was a dealbreaker for me, otherwise it looked appealing.

Thanks, that's good to know. I use multiple browsers as well.

Don't they all? Practically everything is either made in China or made with parts from China.

I have a chromebook and I love it.  It is fast hassle free laptop.  I have had mine for over a year and will buy it again when needed.

I have a google chromebook and have used it for almost  2 years. I also learned when it is fully charged to unplug it and I get a full day out of it. The thing is you can't run some windows based programs on it which is ok for me

I'm on my second chromebook and it is sufficient for my use and the price is right.  I had to learn google docs after decades of using Microsoft Word.

Chromebook is supposed to be like Macs in the fact that they update and protect against viruses.  They are also fairly inexpensive, and if your use is basic, you can probably do well with one.  I am going to get a new laptop soon and it could be a Chromebook.  I know I want a solid state one because it is the new and upcoming system for computers.
