Making Ends meet
« on: June 10, 2020, 12:02:41 pm »
The most costly expense is having a car, paying a car note and car repairs. Have anyone ever had to borrow money to pay for car repairs? Or get help paying car notes?

I would think the most costly expense would be paying a mortgage payment.

No.  Thank goodness.  I just paid my car off in March.  Sounds like you can't afford a car if you have to do all that.

No I have been blessed in my elder years due to my mother being a savvy saver.  I have tried to make what I have last and because I am retired have been able to pay my bills and my car is paid for and I barely drive so it has hardly any miles.  Good luck to anyone struggling.

Our mortgage is our largest expense. Insurance costs are not far behind. Health, homeowners, automobile, jewelry, and life insurance costs are not getting any cheaper. I have a nineteen sixty five jeep that costs ten dollars a month for insurance, fifteen dollars a month for gasoline, eight dollars a month for registration, and about twelve dollars a month for oil changes. My scooter costs about five dollars a month in gasoline, does not require insurance, does not need to be registered an maintenance has been about seventeen dollars per year. My wife/kid's vehicles are newer and any single one of their cars are close to eight times what I pay for my vehicles in a month. I am a cheap, old, tightwad that minimizes expenses and maximizes investments.

Unexpected car expenses can be expensive.....people don't often keep that in mind when purchasing cars...I paid for the car in full but still have insurance and repairs to pay

No, never had to borrow for car repairs; but I know unexpected repairs can be very expensive. I am retired now, so don't drive as much as I use to and thank goodness my 2010 jeep has long been paid off; but I still have to keep up the insurance and maintenance because I have no plans to get another vehicle any time soon. Hope things work out for you.

I have a credit card only for car repairs.  I paid off my 2007 chrysler about 2 years ago (with some help from FC and some other sites).  I have no plans to get another car anytime soon either.

If you want a roof over your head to keep you warm and dry,
some have to choose between a motor vehicle and a home because
they cannot afford both. Life is all about personal choices...so choose well!

That's a good idea using your credit card for car repairs. Thanks for responding!

Lucky you! I have 9,000 to go.

A Car Note costs as much as a Mortgage these Days. I am very lucky that I have not had to borrow money to pay either, but I have come pretty close a time or two.
