Leave it to Beaver
« on: June 09, 2020, 05:38:26 am »
Ward talks all the time about "going to the office" and "having a hard day at the office" and "working at the office" ...

I do not think I ever remember it ever being said what he actually does "at the office"  or what kind of job he has.  In the time frame of this show I was not aware that the majority of men worked office jobs.  But all these TV shows portray the men "working at the office".

CG you're right.  They all went to the office but what office?  The only old shows that I can remember who went to the office, Father Knows Best - He sold insurance, My 3 Sons - he was an engineer of some kind.  God this shows my age 😁

I was listening to Leave it to Beaver.  And he had a "hard day at the office" lol  Did none of these men do physical labor back then? haha

If Beaver or Wally did half the stuff the kids do today the parents would be committed.

His actual profession is a bit vague. He works at a trust company with Fred Rutherford, Lumpy's father. His boss is Mr. Anderson, but the actual work he does is not specified.

Sequel series (1984–1989)
Its reception led to a new first-run, made-for-cable series, The New Leave It to Beaver (1984–1989), with Beaver and Lumpy Rutherford running Ward's old firm (where Lumpy's pompous, demanding father – played by Richard Deacon in the original series before his death in 1984 – had been the senior partner), Wally, who married his high school girlfriend Mary Ellen Rogers, as a practicing attorney and expectant father, and June having sold the old house to Beaver himself but living with him as a doting grandmother to Beaver's two young sons. Eddie Haskell runs his own contracting business and has two sons; eldest son Freddie (played by Ken Osmond's real-life son, Eric Osmond), who was every inch his father's son – right down to the dual-personality, and a younger son, Eddie, Jr., aka "Bomber" (played by Osmond's younger real-life son, Christian Osmond), who was often away at military school, but would periodically come home to visit.

It still does not say WHAT his job is.  lol  I don't think I ever heard of the New leave it to beaver.  Not sure I would like it.  But that Girl Meets World is pretty good and it is a spin off of Boy Meets World and is about Cory as an adult and all his friends and their kids.

Btw, I did not think Mary Ellen Rogers was ever Eddie's girlfriend.  Only in Eddie's mind.  Didn't Wally date her some too?  Or at least like her?

I think that's what the article said - that Mary Ellen was Wally's girlfriend.

I was thinking Wally dated her a few times.  She would not give Eddie the sleeze the time of day. haha  I did not remember Wally ever having a girlfriend. I watch it every day.  OR listen to it in the background.

LOL you are right - when we used to watch that show all the time but it never occurred to me what kind of "office" he went to but then we were from a blue collar family.
