Does anyone use them and what are your thoughts about them. I have heard both positive and negative views.

My husband has used them, often, over the years and they do, usually find him some work.  I would say definitely worth it to go through.  They're free so you really don't have anything to lose.

I got my current daytime job through a temporary agency. After six months of doing contract work I was hired on full time. I think it is an excellent way for a person to determine if they like the company and work environment and it is a great way for companies to weed out people who are not a good fit while keeping the hard workers. The initial pay was higher as a temporary because there are no benefits but that was even better for us because, at the time, we had all of our benefits covered through my wife's company and could use the higher pay.Not having vacation time would have been the only drawback but I got three weeks as soon as I was hired.  If I stopped working at my current job I would probably just go with jobs from the temporary agencies. I think the immediate environment created by today's circumstances (the virus) will make it harder to find a temporary agency that has anything available.

Some are and some aren't. Pay attention to what you are signing. Some make you purchase their t shirts to wear on the job site. And there is one locally but they are a national temp agency and you have to pay for your own drug test and back ground check. And the two together are around $75. You have to do this before every job they place you on.  And if you work one day and then get let go you don't make any money because you pay it all for being placed.  I was working on being placed on a job once and I said something about the drug test which they charge $25 for.  It is a $2 test they do in the office.  Then the background check and she talks it up like oh it is a xx panel extensive search. I told her well I KNOW I have never been arrested and pushing a big sale on me won't work.  I ended up telling them to forget it because I was not paying $75 to be placed on a very temp position.

Not sure why you would think that. I would think it would make tons more jobs available. Companies can fill positions they have that are just temporary. The jobs available also depend on the area you live in.  The temp agencies (none which are in my local county) do not have that many jobs and def do not have good jobs.  Most pay $8 or less.  Then they want to say oh people are lazy and people won't work.  NO people can't drive an hour to a job that pays poverty wages.  And lots of times in unsafe working conditions.

Never really thought about it before, even though it would have been better for me money wise. Really need to consider this now. Been out of work for far too long...

I used them back in 2004 and got work and then got on full-time. Laid off in 2011 and again in 2016. I used them in '16 but never got work again. It seemed they changed their policies or attitude in that they practice take it or leave it for work opportunities. They also dont seem to look out for you anymore. They even sent me on an interview i wasnt supposed to be at which angered me a lot. I've seen on internet is better to work at a starbucks than go through them

I think they are a good way to find out if you really want to work in a certain area; I went through a temp agency many, many  years ago  when I completed under grad school it was fine for me because I knew it was only for a short time as I would be going to graduate school in the fall, I liked the job but was not something I would have wanted to do long term as a career. Now days some temp agencies are more specializied; depending on ones  skills set; I think if a person has a very strong IT Tech background then they should go through an agency that really has a demand for people with that background; so I guess it just depends, if interested I think a person should try and if they don't like; go to a different agency.

Not all agencies are free.  I do think they are worth while though.  It  doesn't mean you can't continue to look yourself as well.
