COVID-19 Getting Closer
« on: March 18, 2020, 12:51:08 pm »
My county in PA is almost surrounded by those with the virus. Last night there was 96 in the state, by noon today there was 133. Along with Berks, where one case was reported, Lackawanna and York counties were added to the list with one and two cases respectively.

Previously the disease had been confirmed in Beaver, Bucks, Chester, Cumberland, Delaware, Lehigh, Luzerne, Monroe, Montgomery, Northampton, Philadelphia, Pike, Washington, and Wayne counties. There have been 1,187 cases with negative results.

Grocery stores are opening later and devoting the first hour to 1-1/2 hours to the immune depressed and elderly. That's kind of them but Hubby doesn't get up that early and I can't drive so....<sigh> Guess son's girlfriend will be doing the running. He's compromised with heart as is hubby and me with remission and diabetes.

I am in the same situation heart and diabetes.  I hate this - not that everyone doesn't.  I wish our store did that with the elderly but like your husband I am not a early riser.  I put on a mask and gloves when I go and it is hot hard to breath torture.

I live in Minnesota.  Here's the latest:

Wednesday, March 18: The number of reported COVID-19 cases in Minnesota has reached 77, according to the Minnesota Department of Health.

Cases have been reported in 16 counties.  The state has performed 2,761 tests for the virus, according to MDH.

Gov newson ordered all Californians to  stay at home.  Do that anyway. Not sure if  my daughter can take her kids to the park. Not seeing them this weekend hunkering  down.

The numbers will continue to increase as more testing is done and as more people show symptoms...it's scary that our numbers are echoing what happened in Italy....I just hope it slows down and doesn't kill as many...

They aren't expecting kids to go back to school this school year in Fayette Co., KY.  My daughter had to get her room ready to close up for the year before she left on Wednesday.  Praying they will get to go back in August.  So much for our Hawaiian vacation in June... :'(
Have a wonderful day!

The governor of Illinois has ordered a shelter in place that starts today (Saturday) @ 5:00.  Only necessary business such as grocery stores, pharmacies, gas stations, healthcare, hardware stores, restaurants for drive thru etc are allowed to be open.  He is always looking for healthcare personnel that have left the field to come back and waiving all the license fees for them.

Yes, it is pretty frightening.  I am in California and had to leave my Dad and husband in the hospital (no visitors allowed) for other things not the virus.  My husband has come home now, but we have to be careful with him until his immunity has built up for anything.  My dad will be there a couple of more weeks.  He might be just as safe there as at home.  It is scary how quickly this has spread.  I am Native American and many of the tribes began to prepare for this the end of November when the reports first were coming out of China.  I think that a lot of the Native Americans on the reservations and territories are better prepared than the rest of the country because they did jump on it so quickly and so soon.  A lot of their borders were closed a while back to visitors and visitors there were asked to leave for the time being.    Anyway, I hope we all stay safe and that the stay at home strategy works in curbing this.    I also think they should not cancel all of the senior activities, just postpone then until this passes.  Graduation and Prom are things they will remember forever.  It seemed to last about 4 months in China.
