Going to the store.
« on: March 17, 2020, 06:52:44 am »
I have to go out to Walmart to pick up a prescription .  Last time (a few days ago) I was there some of the shelves were empty.  I'm a bit nervous that they won't have stocked the shelves. This toilet paper shortage is unreal, Luckily I've always kept extra.   Oh well....it is what it is.

I was in CVS last night and was the only customer. It felt so strange.

They are stocking the shelves constantly. People clean them out again as soon as anything is put out.

You would think it would have to.  I mean how much stuff can people buy just to have as stocking up?  In two more weeks you would think every body in the area would have stocked all they could need. Surely the same people are not going every day and buying huge heaping cart fulls of stuff.

I have what I need. The only thing I do need I refused to go to Walmart for it so I ordered it off Amazon. :D

I went to the store today because I needed a couple things I forgot last week and thought I should get there before the people do. Plus it was Senior's day. So between the 10% of order and $.03 for each bag. Had an order that should cost  $35 for the 7 items.. Took 3 bags with me. I wanted a lb. of sweet Italian sausage and they only had 4 packs of HOT. All I wound up with was eggs, a bag of baby carrots, 1/2 gal. milk and ice cream, for a total a little over $12.00.Didn't get my discount either. Bummer.  Went to the produce store. Didn't know what that would cost. Had 10 items on there. Wound up with 4 items. Couldn't find some stuff. They moved items around again. Did get a nice ham slice there and beautiful asparagus.  No fresh fruit (lots there, not what I wanted) . No fresh herbs. I should have picked up some red peppers. They were 3/$1. Usually, they're 2/$1. They did have about 10 packs of toilet paper. LOL

I had to go to Walmart yesterday for a few things and pick things up for my parents because they aren't leaving the house due to their age. There were no eggs, and empty shelves everywhere. My mom wanted flour so she could make homemade bread. There were 2 bags left on the shelf. I didn't think that would be something people were stocking up on.

I am deathly afraid of going to the supermarket now, not only because of the long lines but some people have been getting a tad bit crazy (think: Black Friday).

The always be prepared people tell people to have flour so they can use it as a sourdough starter to make bread... so if anyone wants to be prepared just in case, flour is a key item for preppers.   For sourdough starter you just need Flour & Water because there is wild yeast in flour... then after like 5 days you can make bread with it. :)

My husband and i were a tiny bit preemptive and went out to Publix on Friday evening. Ended up getting a few things on our regular Walmart grocery list (of course, no toilet paper). Went out again on Saturday to Walmart and got the rest of our groceries for the week (again, no toilet paper). Went out to Costco afterwards and got our regular every three week shopping done there (guess what? Again, no toilet paper). Every one of the places we went to were extremely crowded and extremely panicky. Then today we went to Walmart again to try to pick up stuff we couldn't get on the other outings, just our regular day-to-day stuff for our family of four, plus a few extra items so we don't have to go for another little while (although, no toilet paper). Things were much nicer today, no panic buying that I could see. But I don't want to have to go ANYWHERE until this next weekend. Oh, we finally found some toilet paper online and bought it, after much searching.  :peace:

I went to our local grocery store and the lines were long.  But it was the aggressive driving in the parking lot that scared me the most.

Why not? Do you think you are the only one who bakes?  Our Walmart there was no flour, meal, nothing like that.  And the 3 bags of sugar that were left were busted.  An older guy got a small bag of brown sugar because that is all that was left.  And with the cdc saying this won't be over til some time in June people are going more crazy.

My employer released us early on Friday (with pay) so we could get to the stores....our local supermarket was PACKED!  Luckily, no one was acting crazy or "hoarding", employees were trying to keep the shelves stocked... but there were slim pickin's in some departments.  We were able to get enough meat to last at least a week, water and other household goods.  The lines were long, but the customers were polite and the workers were efficient and smiling.   All in all, it wasn't a bad experience.

I stopped in Kroger on Sunday to pick up a few items.  The shelves had quite a few bare spots.  They did have a good supply of fresh fruits and veggies.  Frozen food aisle was bare.  Had plenty of Kroger brand breads.  Was out of the 1% milk that my husband drinks so settled for 2%.  Overall, I got everything on my list.
Have a wonderful day!
