Am I missing something?
« on: March 11, 2020, 12:01:30 pm »
In my city you can’t find any cases of water or a roll of toilet paper.  I don’t honestly get the connection of hoarding those 2 things.  Am I missing something?

No I don't think you are missing anything - online it said there was no reason to hoard these things yet apparently people are hoarding them or price gouging online.  Lord help us.

I was at 2 different stores today (Walmart & Hanaford) and noticed they both had a very low supply of toilet paper. ???

People need to learn what the word "hoard" means.  You are mad because you supposedly can't find toilet paper.  Every one else done the same thing you want to do. They bought toilet paper.  A person buying 1 or 2 extra packages of TP does not make them a hoarder.  People are watching the news and seeing what is going on.  Entire countries have been put on lock down.  Even cities in the US have been put on lock down.  Do you understand what that means?  You are not going to be running to the store.  The CDC has repeatedly said to have enough stock in your home to not leave your house for 2 weeks at the least. Yes, they follow that statement with "don't panic".  But you are kind of contradicting yourself in the same sentence.  That is like saying "your house is on fire but take your time getting outside".

It is kind of like when they give snow in areas that do not usually get snow.  Every one runs to the store and buys milk and bread.  Yet people do not say they are hoarding bread. smh.  The word is being way over used and used incorrectly.
Somehow I think when you catch it on the shelf you will do the same thing every one else has done - you will buy a couple of big packages so that you know that YOU have something to wipe your butt with.

I have not seen random people selling toilet paper or anything else, other than masks, online at inflated prices.  Walmart has it.  Certain brands are low at our Walmart but apparently they have plenty of others.  If you can't find it in your stores then buy it online.  Walmart dot com has plenty of it and you get it in 2 days delivered to your home.

I do not care what people buy. I have what I need. The only thing that puzzles me is when people run to the store and fight with strangers and buy enough food and whatever else to last for months and then they are still out in town every day.  If you are not going to stay at home then there is no need to stock up on anything.

I hope it does not come to staying in your house for two weeks, let's pray it won't come to that.

Hint: Use public restrooms- Save a bundle of money on toilet paper, paper towels and hand soap.
That is what many people do to save money. Then, buy only what you need to use at home. You will soon notice the difference.

If I had to walk 2 miles to the nearest public restroom every time I had to pee, I'd never make it in time. Lol!

My husband was remarking tonight on the toilet paper-buying panic that is going on at the moment in response to the coronavirus. I was a little puzzled at this particular product being bought up so urgently. i can understand water, because you have to have it to survive, but toilet paper? I mean, don't get me wrong, I want to have plenty of toilet paper should we not be able to leave the house for any period of time. But to go out and buy grocery carts full? Anyway, I looked up this phenomenon and psychologists are positing that by people hoarding toilet paper, it gives them some of the control back that they feel they have lost with this pandemic.  :peace:

I have a question for everyone, if you are quarantined for 14 days for the coronavirus how much toilet paper would you need? I just get buying the extra toilet paper unless you are expecting to be quarantined for months.

People are not buying carts full.  That is the thing.  I have talked to cashiers at our Walmart.  Each person buys one or maybe two.  No one is buying 10 to 20 packs.    I don't get the stocking up on tons of water.  Do you not have running water in your home?  Your water to your home is not going to be interrupted.

Why is it so wrong for someone to purchase and have on hand an extra roll of TP.  And if you look at other countries they have been on lock down for weeks.  Not just 2 weeks.  I can't be the only one who does not care what other people buy.  I mean I could see if you have one person purchasing it ALL every time it hit the shelf. But that isn't the case.

That seems to be the case everywhere, people are just in a panic mode; the things like toilet paper flying off the shelves are items we always kept extra in our home anyway, before this crisis if I saw it on sale I would just buy an extra pack!

I have kept a stockpile of toilet paper, paper towels and bottled water for years.  We used to have frequent water outages here so that is why I stockpile bottled water.  I hate having to shop often so I keep the tp & paper towels stocked so I don't have to buy them for every 6 months or so.
Have a wonderful day!

According to our local paper and our local tv station, some people are buying carts full.  There are pictures of people walking out with 8, 9, 10 packs of TP .  I see nothing wrong with getting 1 or 2 packs but 10?
