I will never understand how people say they cannot get a 5 year old or 2 year old or whatever to go to bed. You are the adult. Put her butt in the bed and if she gets up wear her out. Put her back in the bed and tell her not to get up again.  My parents/grandparents did not argue with me. If I was told to do something I done it.

You are seriously suggesting drugging a child to get them to go to sleep?  I know a guy who done that and his child ended up being flown in a medical helicopter and almost dying.  He did not want to fool with her and just wanted her to go to sleep.

This may sound bad to some people but your best bet is to use some drug to help your child go to sleep.

Try talking to her a while and then reading her a story. Reading totally makes me sleepy. And if she has any problems to hash out, you could maybe talk about them and make her not worry so much.

Talking to kids is so much fun. They really do say the darndest things.

My daughter was like this at 5 yrs. Woke her up about 7 thirty it was hard she had to get to school. She went to sleep about 9pm . 8 was out of the question. If she slept late then she won't go to bed early. I remember my cousins went to bed about 8 thirty but woke up at 6am.

I don't think that at my age, I could deal with caring for young kids, they have too much energy.  Reading would be the first thing I would try.  Sugar would totally be out.

Both of my daughters were on melatonin at a young age b/c of their family history (dads side) of sleep issues. Both girls still take it. It's natural so it can't hurt you. Talk to your pediatrician.

When mine was little I use to have to lay in bed with her and cover her eyes, hug her close enough  she could not move, once she was still she would sleep.

I don't get why, parents make their kids that afternoon nap. I hated that afternoon, nap because I'd be up all night after dinner when it's really time to go to bed. So, keep the kid active to the point where by the end of the day the kid be too exhausted to fight during bed time!

The best thing we did for our children was to make sure they got to bed by 8:30 p.m. This worked very well throughout their whole childhood, until they were in middle school, LOL! My first son was an easy one to get to bed, but my second son really resisted it. But putting him (and his brother) to bed at exactly the same time every night seemed to do the trick. Good luck!  :peace:

Is she in her regular bed, maybe she's wound up if she's in a different bed.

I don't think you should drug your granddaughter or anything. You have to do something to quiet her down like read very softly to her until she calms down.
