Fear of rejection
« on: January 14, 2020, 07:30:21 am »
I have been thinking about asking the local grocer if he would be interested in purchasing some house plants from me.  I see that he sells plants seasonally.  I even seen that he had locally grown produce.  Which I thought was amazing for him to do.  I know the man.  I have done business with him before.  I actually worked for him at one time.  The thought of asking him if he would be interested in my plants just scares me.  Only because I don't want to hear "No".  One thing for sure is I won't hear yes if I don't ask.

There might be some regulations on buying and selling plants. But it would be interesting to find out.
Ask.  A "no" doesn't mean it isn't a worthy idea.  And I'd like to know what the grocer's response is.

In this case (since you know him), I would just tell him you are interested in selling some plants wholesale and as someone you trust, you wondered if he thought it was a good idea.

maybe you could see if there is a farmers market in your area and sell them that way

Fear of rejection...tired of having NO! for an answer.
I have a better idea for you:
-Have a garage sale and sell all your plants at a price you like.

Seriously I would ask him.  He might say no, but he might say yes, you won't know until you ask.

You will never know if you don't ask.  All he can say is no and if he can't buy them maybe he will know someone who would be willing to buy them.

I think you should definitely ask, especially if you know the guy.  If there are rules and requirements that need to be met, you would be able to find that out.  Can't get a yes if you don't ask and the worst that can happen is he says no.  If he says no, there was no loss.  You're no worse off than before you asked.

Thanks for your advise and encouragement.  I finally worked up the nerve to ask.  He wasn't there.  LOL so I will try again.

I have always had a fear of rejection, especially when it comes to sales of any kind. One day a car saleswoman that I worked with at a retail store (she was part time there) told me that I just have to toughen myself to the word NO. She said that she gets a lot of NOES and just has to keep on going, don't take it personally, and then finally the YES will come along. She did say that she can't stand salespeople that won't take NO for an answer, that it's very rude and insulting to the would-be customer.  :peace:

How would you ever know if you don't ask? Just ask.

How fun it will be if he says yes. Not so bad if he says no. You're a big boy now so put on your big boy pants and ask. You'll live.

Besides, you can always come back to the forum postings and get some support if you are told no. It's not really a rejection of you by your friend if he declines your offer. And your FC friends will lift you back up. You know? :highfive:

I do understand fear of rejection but it never hurts to try? I would definitely suggest a local farmers market.

If you never ask, the answer is already "no".  Just psyche yourself up & ask him casually if he would be interested.  Nothing ventured, nothing gained... so they say :)

Good Luck!

Hey, good point! I've never thought of it that way. :)
