Post-Holiday Lift or Blues
« on: January 12, 2020, 03:49:51 pm »
When I was younger, I used to have the holiday blues and a post-holiday lift because all of the holiday hullabaloo was over! I think it was partly because I was usually working during the holidays that caused this, partly because being with my extended family always reminded me that I wasn't married and I didn't have kids. I basically had to sit at the children's card table for every holiday meal until I was in my upper 20s, LOL!

Then after I got married and had kids, I started having the opposite: a lift during the holidays and the blues afterwards. I especially feel that now because my kids go back to school and my husband goes back to work after their holiday break, and I'm still working by home all by my lonesome, except for my excellent cat, Tinker!

How do you feel about the holiday season and post-holiday time? :peace:

Christmas was a little different this year and no was around on the actual holiday and hated it.  Did not like having Christmas after the actual holiday but am glad it over and the routine is restored.

I don't care about xmas it's just more hype to buy, buy, buy.  It's just another day to me I don't get caught up in it.

Yeah hate the hype to buy. Glad it's over realizing how much I spent and was so sick of the ads.  Only watched a couple hallmark Christmas shows. To watch anymore would of had to been drunk or do some drugs.

I like the holidays.  My thoughts to the people who don't celebrate holidays or hate them or whatever is don't celebrate and go on with your life.  Don't be a downer to the rest of the world.  As soon as Christmas was over they started putting out the Valentine stuff.  There are always going to be holidays.  No one makes you participate.

Nobody makes you buy stuff.  How you celebrate a holiday is up to you.  If you are too weak to be your own person and do your own thing then that is on you. I do not base how I live my life or celebrate a holiday on what someone else is doing.

I am happy when they are over; it is just so busy; crowds rushing all over the place, so I guess for me it is a lift; to get back to a calmer environment.

Glad when it is over at my place of work but do enjoy the spirit when it is there. Hate cleaning up afterwards and taking down the decorations too!

I feel the holidays are designed to be a reprieve from life and as for post holiday time...I feel nothing. Back to numbly approaching life.

I get a holiday lift and a "Thank God that's over" relief at the end.

I love all the fun things about decorating, shopping and cooking for Christmas, and usually a little sad the day after when all the presents have been opened and the decorations have to come down.

John 8:31-32 English Standard Version (ESV)
The Truth Will Set You Free
31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

When we understand what Jesus meant here, thats when its a good time to thank God.
