Finally! My contract with Comcast is up!
« on: December 17, 2019, 03:46:12 pm »
After 2 years of complaining about the TV problems I had with them, they finally brought me a new box (and charged me $50 for home visit) which I complained about because it was their problem, not mine. Anyway, TV working great now that my contract is up and I see they're raising rates again.

So, does anyone use Sling or know anyone who uses it? I've been researching different sites for a while and found that Sling has all but 3 of the stations we watch. I'm thinking of canceling Comcast and only keeping internet service if I don't get a fantastic deal from them this time. I'm also thinking of cancelling my phone service because all I get are robot and telemarketing calls or the cheats trying to steal my phone number.

So, anyone have any ideas on Sling? Thanks!

Yes, we will be going through the same thought process we will be going through in a few months when our Comcast contract runs out! I'm not sure what we'll do, but we hardly watch TV anymore other than Netflix, so we'll probably do something a lot cheaper than what we're paying now!  :peace:

I look forward to the responses to this question because we are also contemplating dropping cable .  I just now learned about Pluto TV.  I will be checking that out soon.

Maybe I should follow suit. Not because I have a problem with the service in itself, but I'm pretty I can get the same service or something similar without paying 200 a month.
"Let me ask you something. If the rule you followed brought you to this, of what use was the rule?"

I am so glad that I do not have cable TV anymore because it is so expensive, and it takes up so much of your time to watch anyway. I just watch videos on Youtube and that is completely free. No other tv for me. I would definitely try another service like Sling to replace cable because I'm sure that the price is only going to go up on that anyway.

Do you have a landline service with Comcast, too? I once had landline with at&t, and they charged me $35 a month for it. I thought it was a ripoff, so I bought an ooma voip phone that costs me less than $5 per month. Initial device and setup cost me less than $90. I haven't had any major problems with the service yet and I've had it for a few years now.

I have DirecTV now, which, is getting expensive.  I would cancel it except for my dad.  He's used to it and always complains when I switch services.  I also have expedite TV which I like a lot and it's inexpensive.  Has all the channels I want and movies.

I looked at Sling and  it seemed to focus more on Sports, so I went with Hulu TV which had live TV for local news and I could watch everything I wanted (including sports) for $45 a month.

I buy phone service two years at a time from VOIPO and I can block numbers from my customer portal, so I don't get many now. My bill ends up less than $7 a month and I have a Panasonic system with four handsets.

We had Sling! My husband loved it. Now we have hulu, netflix and disney plus. Also Pluto Tv, the free app. We have an antenna for local channels. Theres really no need for cable anymore these days.

We ditched that service many years ago and now use roku. Helps with the budget too!

I would cancel all services with Comcast and switch providers. They have the worst products and services I ever had with them. If you can switch providers and have the internet speeds you are looking for I would switch. Comcast sucks!

I am also waiting for my contract to be up to make changes. Cable companies are going to need to lower prices significantly or they will be out of Haines with all the other options out there.

Actually, I have a TCL/Roku TV hubby bought because ours died after only 5 years.  I need something simple for hubby because he has trouble figuring out how to get the guide, Pg (arrow) up and Pg(arrow) down. He does know who to turn the volume up. I'll have to read up on their services again. Sling was the best at the time because they had 22 of the 26 channels we watch for less than the others. Hulu was my second pick. Netflix is just plain "ugh!" He does't like movies so any service with mostly movies is totally out.
