Support Ending for (Blank)

 :cat:

I would like this thread to be ongoing so we have a forum topic on consumer changes, electronics and other!
If you are buying a new TV, this article has a link to compatible devices too.  I would check if you are buying used, preowned or reconditioned devices.

I'll start off with December 1, 2019   iDrop news says:

Netflix Will Stop Working on These Smart TVs and Roku Devices Dec. 1st

(Copy/Paste this link to read article)

https://www.idropnews.com/news/netflix-will-stop-working-on-these-smart-tvs-and-roku-devices-dec-1st/122276/?utm_source=Newsletter&utm_medium=Newsletter&utm_campaign=110819&utm_term=Newsletter

The company means that all 2010 and 2011 smart TVs will lose support.

You can view our list of assumed Netflix-incompatible devices here.

Samsung and Netflix both note that users will see a new pop-up alert on their devices notifying them of the upcoming compatibility change.

What Should I Do?

If you haven’t seen anything on your device so far, you’re likely fine. But even if you have an impacted device, that doesn’t mean that you’ll need to rush out and buy a new TV.
There are plenty of current devices that support Netflix that you can use along with your Samsung smart TV — including an Apple TV set-top box, a Roku or Amazon Fire TV streaming device, or a gaming console like an Xbox One or PlayStation 4.

Do keep in mind that some older Roku streaming sticks will also lose support to Netflix on Dec. 1 due to those same technical limitations, according to an October report by CordCutters News.
According to Roku, only the first two Roku models will lose Netflix support. Those devices originally debuted in 2008 and 2011.

If you happen to be in the unfortunate position of having an impacted Samsung smart TV and an impacted Roku, you can pick up a new Roku Express for about $30 on Amazon.

At this point, it doesn’t seem like any Apple TV models are losing support for the streaming service. But we’ll update this page if that does turn out to be the case.

Good to know... I have two 2nd Generation Roku boxes that I upgraded to FireSticks already so I'm good.

It's sad that technology ages out so fast -- I have a three year old VIZIO Smart TV that hasn't been able to get regular HULU for over a year, only HULU Plus.

Yes, HuLu stopped working on two of my devices, had to load another browser just to watch it!  Not a big inconvience but alot of people would have given up on them.   Try that on your device, and see if Hulu regular will work for you.

Well, I do not have netflix so I do not have to worry. But I love my roku device. It is a really good alternative to cable tv.

Windows 7 support ends    January 14, 2020.

If you continue to use Windows 7 after support has ended, your PC will still work, but it will become more vulnerable to security risks and viruses because you will no longer receive software updates, including security updates, from Microsoft.

The mainstream support for Windows 7 (Service Pack 1) ended on January 13, 2015, and the extended support ends on January 14, 2020. The mainstream support for Windows 8.1 ends on January 9, 2018, and its extended support will end on January 10, 2023.

This is a popular operating system, so this creates concern for many. All support for Windows 7 will end on January 14, 2020. Microsoft announced they are stopping mainstream support for Windows 7.

Adobe Plans to Kill the Flash Media Player

“During the 20- plus years, Flash has had an incredible role to play,” Balakrishnan said. “Few technologies have had such a profound impact in the Internet era.”

It’s an end of an era for Adobe Flash, the software that helped bring online video to the masses in the Internet’s early days but also frustrated people for nearly two decades over its frequent updates and buggy nature.

Adobe Systems said Tuesday that it plans to stop improving and distributing its Flash player by the end of 2020.

The software company’s decision to phase out Flash is noteworthy considering that the software has been synonymous with Adobe (ADBE) since its debut for playing videos and animations in web browsers. As the Internet matured and grew in popularity over the years, so did Flash, which became one of the most widely used ways for people to watch video clips and play online video games.

I quit subscribing to these along time ago.  I went back to free t.v.  (analog)  I don't miss streaming, or the monthly fees.

"Flash" is what lets the videos play in your browser during these surveys, it is not cable TV.
