Promos/Free Items
« on: November 02, 2019, 03:38:57 pm »
I have noticed a lot of places offer a free item if the cashier fails to ask you to make a donation or fails to suggest an item.
For example, back in the summer McDonald's had a sign if the cashier did not suggest the new freeze drink you got one free.  And a couple weeks ago they were doing a promo where if the cashier did not suggest the new chicken strip things you get a box free.

We have a grocery store that has 2 liters on every register and if the cashier fails to ask you to donate to whatever the cause of the week is you get that 2 liter free.  At different times of the year there are different items on the register.  I have seen this type thing in a few grocery stores.

Two questions - 1)  Has anyone noticed this any of the places you have been in  and 2)  if you did and the cashier failed to offer you the item or ask for donation or whatever would you tell them and get the free item?

I have noticed this in certain places.  the  cashiers surprisingly have never slipped up to where I would get something for free. This also happens at the pharmacies too. if they fail to give you a receipt, you get $5.00 free.

Looking for freebies? Go to job/housing, women/men fairs.
You can get: Tote bags, ear buds, pens and markers, calendars.
book markers, rulers, measuring tapes, free meal at McDonald,
free invitation at health clubs and much more.

They do it all the time in my general area.  Not just my county.  I was in McDonald's about an hour from my home town and got a free box of the new chicken wing things.  They asked her and she said no I did not suggest it.  And they told her you need to do that.  She looks sad and said okay.  While they were fixing my chicken I stood there and watched her wait on 3 more customers and did not suggest the item to any of those. smh

I have seen the receipt thing in the past but had forgotten about that.

I have often seen it with receipts...."if cashier fails to provide a receipt the meal is...." or something like that...

No, I am not looking for free stuff.  They do not have stuff like that around here anyway.  There have been job fairs but they do not give away free stuff.  Maybe an ink pen but I can buy my own ink pens.  And why go if you are not in the market for a job.  I have never heard of a "housing fair"  No a women or men's fair.

I was just curious as to if people take advantage of something like what I described.  A lot of people won't say anything.  I figure if they have signs up saying "if this or this happens or doesn't happen then you get this item free" you may as well take it.

I have seen signs for things like that, but usually that's when the cashier will ask so I never qualify!

I have seen signs for things like that, but usually that's when the cashier will ask so I never qualify!

Several years ago I worked some where part time and we had to ask if they wanted to donate their change to one of 3 local charities.  And around Christmas they had to ask for donations to ALL THREE.  But if you fail to ask the customer did not get anything.  Usually the customer got mad and yelled at the cashier because they just wanted their change.

I went to a Krystals once (again a long time ago) and the cashier just plopped my change in to her change bucket.  Then got mad when I told her "I" wanted my change.  She did not even ask me.  I did go in to a FireHouse Subs for the first time a few months ago and they asked if we wanted to donate our change to the local volunteer fire department.  We did do that.  I don't remember if you got anything if they did not ask or not.
I can understand why some of them do not want to ask because a lot of times customers get mad.  I just say no or not today and go on.

No I have never been in a store where there was a sign saying I could get something for free if the cashier forgets to suggest an item. I would for sure ask for the item if that happened to me.

Use to I wouldn't say anything but I do now.  If they are going to advertise it then you should get it.  Sometimes the employee gets mad but falls back on do your job.  I got several freezes at McDonalds back in the summer. lol Even the managers don't ask.

Yes, I've noticed this at some places, but in general, I probably would never even notice if the cashier didn't offer something. I'm too preoccupied with getting checked out and outta there as fast as possible. I hate shopping. LoL!

They usually have a sign next to the register so I listen to see if they do it.  If they were paying attention they would see me looking at the sign.  The one this summer after I told her what I wanted right before she told me the total she said 'yuhwant sompen else'  and I said no.  Then when I got my order I asked for the free freeze.  The phrase she uttered was not suggesting the freeze drink.

I haven't noticed any lately but I do so love a freebie of any kind.  I used to get a lot of freebies online but don't bother with it much anymore I found I ended up hoarding them up and not using them.
