I just saw an ad on TV for Ancestry's new health DNA test. It gives you your ethnicity results plus health reports. I might look into that.

I've received two Ancestry DNA tests for free. The first one was a beta test when they first started doing the DNA thing. I got the second one for free when I signed up for ancestry again after cancelling for a while.

Your results become more detailed as more people get involved. My first beta test said my ancestors were from Europe. Well duh. I already knew that. But that was many years ago and my results have become more specific since then.

Are you sure?  Because most people seem to think that if you are white you had to come from Europe.  Somebody had always thought that and got their results and it showed they had nothing to do with Europe.

Yes, I am sure. I had been researching my family tree for many years before I sent in the DNA test, so I already knew the areas and even some villages my ancestors lived. What's interesting is that Norway shows up on my DNA results, and so far I haven't found evidence in my research of ancestors living in any Scandinavian countries. I'm curious to find the connection, if there really is one.

I have info going back from both parents (their parents) so in 4 directions.  I have to the early 1800s on all 4 and back in to the late 1700s on one.  I am not sure what countries they all came from because they were all here since the 1700s at least.  I would not do one of them tests though because there have been warnings that sell your info.  I really don't think it makes that much of a difference at this point in my life haha

Well, I figure, based on all the data breaches that happen every day, my info is out there for anyone to see anyway.

The ancestry thing went on sale last year around Christmas, I got a kit for my mom for I think 60. There were no big surprises but she still got a kick out of it.

I've never done it, but it certainly sounds intriguing.  Maybe someday...
