Are You Listening?

A couple of guys were out hunting when one of them falls to the ground.  He doesn't seem to be breathing and his eyes are rolled back in his head. The other guy whips out his cell phone and calls 911.  He frantically tells the operator, "Bubba is dead!!  What can I do?"  The operator, calm and smooth says, "Just take it easy, I can help.  First make sure he is dead."  There is a silence and then a shot is heard.  The guy comes back on the phone line and says, "Okay, now what?"

This story is so ridiculous it's funny, but it brings out a serious point. When you read what's written here are you taking in what the other person is saying, or are you too busy thinking about what you want to say next?

I don't think an actual 911 operator would say "okay first make sure he is dead".

There was a situation in my area where 2 guys were hunting and one of them died in the woods.  There was NO cell service.  He loaded up his dead friend and brought him down to the first house (which was someone I knew) and used their phone to call 911.  I don't remember how he died.  Or what the deal was.  But your post made me think of that.

I do know they did not ask are you sure he is dead.  Or make sure he is dead.

But you are correct in one thing.  Not with reading but with talking most people don't listen to what you say.  They are too busy thinking of what they are going to say back to disagree with you.

lol wait the first time i read this i completely missed the entire punchline. I was thinking "yes it makes sense to check if the person is actually dead or not before freaking out or not helping them live" this is a good one.
