Anticipation better than the thing
« on: August 25, 2019, 09:47:30 am »
Are there times when you enjoy anticipating something even more than you enjoy the actual thing happening? The older I get, I think I'm that way with more and more things. Is it just me?

For example my favorite time of year has always been Halloween and autumn, and I start getting into it very early, and I think that "it's coming!" season of planning and excitement, and feeling the weather just barely starting to change, has actually come to far outweigh the actual day for me.

I was going to say no, but now that you mention it, I do anticipate Christmas and setting the house up in decorations around the first of November

I guess there have been times I look forward to something and get all excited and then the actual thing is not as exciting as I had it built up to be in my head.

I have to agree with you on this, pectacon. I feel this same way about Christmastime. My husband takes off from work for three weeks at this time, my boys come home from college for winter break, and all is super festive in my home from Thanksgiving until Christmas! And then Christmas Day comes, we exchange presents, go to visit my dad and the rest of our family, come home and enjoy our feeling of contentment. It all comes and goes so fast! The best part of it, though, is the excitement and anticipation of Christmas Day, which is only a small fraction of the time we have spent together during the holiday season. Great observation!

I think this happens to everyone from time to time. It has happened to me before and I don't get super excited about things anymore because I know how things can be in reality.

I was going to say no, but reading the replies from others I agree.  I love Thanksgiving and Christmas.  You plan the meals, decorate the house for Christmas, buy the presents, have the good day, then it's over in a flash. 😥

I too agree that I like the feeling of getting ready for the holidays but they are always over too soon then it's clean up time

Absolutely always, unless you're talking about what might happen in the bedroom with your sig O.   :angel11:

Not really for me I enjoy it more when it happens rather then waiting for it to happen.

Depends on the events and ages of my loved ones.  I used to look forward to Christmas morning... seeing the kids faces when Santa came.  I'd gear up for that moment.  Not I'd be more excited for them to sit next to me at a church service.  Events all remain the same but the development of those around me shifts like the wind.

I think it is tat way with any holiday we start getting ready for early.  Then the day comes and it is over!  Too soon after all the build up. ::)

I try hard not to do this.  But my head always gets in the way.

I always look forward to to something, then I hate to have to leave the house to do it.

I tried not to anticipate as much as I can, as long as I've lived, anticipation has lead to more disappointments then actual surprise/happiness.
