The gun laws need to be federal and enforced by all states so they are the same. Many of the shooters in the last couple of years have had previous mental problems but because of some states checking and some not, some have waiting periods and some not people can go across a state line and pick up a weapon same day. There was a ban on assault weapons that McConnel let expire, would not bring up for a vote a couple years ago so more of these shootings are with those weapons. My family has been in the military, law enforcement and are members of the NRA but we do Not condone civilians having assault weapons. They are made and used for one thing to kill as many people as quickly as you can. 99.9% of people who own guns do not have kids who take them to shoot up schools or shops or festivals. Trump signed a bill a short time ago allowing people with mental history problems to own guns. Most (not all) of the shootings in the last couple of years have been by people spouting off the white supremacy stuff who are born and raised here. Whether you like it or not the current president has made this kind of thinking and actions acceptable with His own actions and words. He did not want to help Puerto Rico because of his bankruptcies there and them making his company make good on their promises, he says the things about Baltimore because his family has been land owners who have had to clean up their properties and they are still in trouble there for not taking care of their properties (They have even spent jail time over it). He has door men who have said they were told not to let people of color in to say that the units are already rented/leased. I have a friend who is of Spanish heritage and her family had one of the original land grants in California be told to go back to her own country...she had been here for only about 10 generations...more than many of the people in this country. We have got to stop with saying any stupid or ugly thing to people just because they do not look and act just like we do. One of our rights in this country is to be able to say and do (MOSTLY) what we want, but then you better also be able to take the consequences of those actions.
