Contaminated Beach Water
« on: June 29, 2019, 02:35:14 pm »
There has been stories in the news about a flesh eating bacteria that can kill you if it gets in you. A woman went into the water after she injured herself and she had an open wound and almost died because of this infection. Be careful beach goers.

Be careful beach goers indeed...  Not flesh eating bacteria but... Mexico releases untreated sewage into the ocean & it often travels up the coast of California.  My friend acquired Meningitis & had to be hospitalized a couple years ago... from such polluted water in Huntington Beach -- there usually is a warning that goes out but if you're one of the first to get it those warnings are too late.

Wow, that sounds scary. I have been wanting to go to the beach this summer and was looking up directions today, but now I'm not so sure. I don't have any open wounds though so that should lower my risk.

This is one of the reasons a private pool is always my choice when I want to cool off during the Summer! I do sometimes go to water parks, even though there is a chance of getting a brain eating amoeba but I guess you can't hide from everything.

Going to the water is no way to treat an open wound.
Covering it paper towel or tissue paper is-so it does get infected.
Then, go to the nearest Hospital Emergency Room immediately.

When I go to the beach I don't get in the water; I just put my feet in and walk in it. But wow that is scary,  I have to be careful.

it's terrible about the water not only for people but the sea life that we also depend upon.

Any time you have an open wound even a swimming pool you are opening yourself up to introducing bacteria in to your body.  Not sure why you would also expose others to your body fluids that can seep from an open wound.

Between flesh eating bacteria and increased shark attacks, i'm not sure why anyone would want to do more than look at the ocean.  They believe the increased warming of the oceans is, in part, responsible for both problems.  The older woman who ended up dying from the flesh eating bacteria received a cut when she stumbled while walking along the beach.  Only a few days later she had a large wound and ended up dying.

The oceans can't be heating up.  That is not true. lol

I did not realize trash was being dumped in to the oceans.  If that is true then animals who live in that area have to move inland.  Kind of like in my area where they are cutting down all the trees.  The wild life will move toward town.  They have to go some where.

As for walking barefoot on the beach or any where else for that matter - I am not sure why anybody would do that to start with.  Too easy to get a cut or stuck by a needle or anything.  You have to work too hard to protect yourself in today's world.

Thanks for the warning Mizzkizz7. That flesh eating bacteria sounds horrific and I hope the woman makes a full recovery. I haven't been to a beach before, but would like to go and this event makes me think twice about going into the waters. It's really disturbing to know this would happen on top of the oil spills and trash being dumped into the waters. Hopefully no one else will be affected by this contamination.
