Years ago I dated over a singles' phone line.  Sort of the same thing as an app.  In addition to what has been mentioned, I always asked a number of questions and jotted down the answers. I would then ask the same questions in different ways in subsequent conversations to see if I received the same responses.  If their answers didn't match, I usually didn't meet them!  I also listened very carefully to tone of voice and what my gut was telling me about the individual. Instinct is important!  Follow it!!  Additionally, I never met anyone until we had talked AT LEAST 3-4 times!

I would never have dated or met somebody online.  People are crazy enough in real life. You have no idea who you are really talking to. Kind of like on here when it came out that certain people had multiple profiles.  He is probably still lurking around. lol

Yes, you have to be very careful these days; there is so much going on so one has to error on the side of caution and be safe; probably would be a good idea to keep  friends and or family updated as oppose to just going off to meet a stranger!

I would probably have a friend join me, maybe sit at another table and absolutely in a public place.  Not to sound like a cynic but when you get his information do a internet check.  it will cost you some money but isn't your life worth it?

Paying for the online searches is not smart and a waste of money.  If you read the disclaimer it tells you that they do not guarantee the info is correct.  And unless you have a copy of his DL you do not know you have the right info.  And what are you going to do - write down his birthday and address and other info?  I wouldn't remember much past his name by the time I got home.  You can do the sex offender search for free.  But all of them are not listed even if they are registered.  I know a guy that is registered but he doesn't show up in a search.

And if somebody started asking me for that much info on a first meeting I would most likely either tell them it was none of their business or lie to them.  I would wonder what their angle was.  Why do you need to know my life history.  If you don't trust them you should not go out with them.

You can even talk for months and go out and then end up dead.  There was a girl a few months ago who met what she thought was a guy on Tinder and I think she had even went out a couple times.  This date she was met by he and his girlfriend and they killed her.  Don't remember any other details.  It was somewhere in the northern states.

Some like the online dating and it works well for them.  I know a girl who went on vacation and met a guy at an attraction she visited.  Got his phone number and hounded him until he agreed to marry her.  This was 2 weeks after they started talking and had only met the one time in person.

Idk.  Guess I just would not want to be dating anybody in today's world.  You have no idea who you are actually dating.  Or what they are hiding from their past. :-(

I met my boyfriend on a dating app. Thankfully, things turned out well; we've been together for a year and a half.

But yes, you have to be extremely careful. Some people are not who they say they are. Prior to meeting my boyfriend, I would play "21 questions" with every guy I came into contact with. Many of them were too impatient and thought I was playing games, so the process of elimination was easy.

I'm happily married but the old fashioned way worked for me - face to face.  Anyone can type anything on this social dating apps and you end up with a nut case or the other person think you the nut case.

It can be very scary dating online.  You never know who that person really is.  Everybody gets online and they all lie for more than one reason or other.  Very scary.

Dating apps and sites should get banned! People frequently disguise themselves online!

As a single lady I've used dating websites but NO More.  I'm through with all that.  There's just too much risk and I'm usually a very optimistic individual.

I think I chose to adopt CAUTION as my middle name.
Have a great day!

I agree with you. Dating apps are really scary and you can't take too many precautions about meeting up with someone you met online. My daughter married a man she met on a dating app, so she swears by them, but maybe she was just really really lucky.

The fear of dating online is there for a reason, but I do think there are still good people out there.  I think it depends on what site you meet on and the kind of person/situation you're looking for.

What a beautiful love story, it can happen.  Congrats.

When I met my spouse we met through a singles magazine (sorta an old fashioned dating APP).

We've been married for 35 years now.

But yes, you do have to be careful.
