Walking will help you to lose weight regardless of whether it is in house or outside.  Steps are steps. If you do enough of them, you will burn off X calories. But like many have said, there is more to it than just walking and it's going to take a lot of steps to have a noticeable impact. Diet is much more effective.

I have done both indoor and outdoor walking over the past winter and I can tell you that I find it much easier to hit daily step goals outside as opposed to inside. But if indoors is your only option, it is still worth it to try.

If you are discipline with your diet and exercise it may work for you.  House cleaning helps and having stairs also helps.  I have a 4 level house and the stairs to do laundry is a great help

Someone might be able to, depending on how much walking especially if they have a house with stairs and are going up and down all day; combined with house cleaning that would burn some calories.

I don't think they could lose a lot of weight from just walking inside of the house. I think I heard you can burn as many calories walking sometimes as jogging, but i think the real key would be how well they were dieting by cutting down calories and their food portions. Walking up and down the stairs for exercise might be more helpful. I used to do that everyday and lost some weight.

It's possible in combination with cutting calories and drinking water.

Any type of excessive movement is considered exercise.
