Tax Day 2019 deadline is almost over!
« on: April 15, 2019, 08:37:09 pm »
It's that day again!  April 15 is Tax Day!  I hope everyone has addressed their tax situation by now.  I always file an extension to take the last-minute pressure off.

Waited until the last minute to send my payment to them.  Handed to my mailman on Saturday.  Did not except to have to pay this year but of course many of us didn't realize the few extra dollars on our checks would hurt us.  Had to even adjust my husband's withholding tax on this social security and retirement so this doesn't happen next year.

I think Tax Day haunts most of us.  It does get me upset how high the taxes are on us working and semi retired folks will never be able to retire for full  have to keep a part time job forever

I’m so glad this day doesn’t freak me out I have my taxes done by the beginning of February  every year ! I do them myself so I don’t have to worry and I usually have my tax refund back by 1 March this year it was the middle of March but that’s OK

I'm self-employed so it's always 100s, if not 1000s, having to be paid. I try to calculate 30% of my income and just put away as I get it. At least I have some of it but 99% of the time, it's off by just a little bit!

Though my taxes are usually filed by February, so April isn't as drastic for me.

Why would you do that?  Why not go ahead and file in Feb when you should have all your paper work by the end of Feb at the very latest?  I have never understood this.  Actually have been in a huge discussion on another forum about this very thing.

You were told that you may need to adjust your with holding.  I don't get waiting until the last minute to mail your payment.  Why not just get it done?  You would be fire spittin mad if the IRS waited until April 16th to mail out your refund.

Anything I mail that is important I also mail certified so I know they get it. Someone has to sign for it so you know they received it.

I agree.  I can't do mine until in Feb because I do not usually have all my stuff.  Some places do not mail out paperwork until the last day of January.

One thing I do not understand is companies were mailing out some kind of proof of insurance form.  The one told me they did not have to have it mailed out until the end of Feb.  I told her that seems ridiculous since tax info has to be mailed out by the end of Jan and a lot of people have already filed by the time this paper arrives in mail boxes some time in March.

Have always had more withheld for all sources of income and did increase my holding when I noticed the difference.  Why would I let the IRS earn interest on my money when I would earn another 2 months of interest.  I would not be spittin mad if they held my money as long as I knew I was entitled it to.  Also you cannot send certified mail to a PO BOX.

YES YOU CAN!  They just put a card in the box and the person comes in and signs for it.  We get certified mail all the time in a PO Box.  And I have sent things to PO Boxes certified.

Guess I have just learned to cover my butt.  If I send something certified they have to sign that it was received and then I know they got it. If they refuse to sign for it then it will be returned to me from THAT PO and I will still know they received it on time.  Although I have never had that happen.

No need to shout or be rude.  Expressing my opinion just like you.  But when I called the post office I was told that the IRS doesn't accept certified mail. Was told what happens is that there are so many letters that they are all put on one log, it would take days to sign for each one, the IRS then just signs one paper saying it got all of them. When the USPS letter carrier delivers the letter the process that documents when the letter was received  at the delivery address is a little bit different.  A delivery notification card is placed inside the PO Box instructing the recipient they have a Certified Mail® waiting for pick up from the Post Office window clerk.  Because USPS requires someone to sign for each Certified Mail® letter the delivery notification card must be presented to the window clerk at the USPS Post Office. Then the recipient is presented the delivery confirmation Signature card and the date and time of the delivery confirmation are electronically captured and recorded by USPS.  This is how the United States Postal Service handles delivery when you address a certified mail label or form to a PO Box.

lol.  I am not being rude.  If you cannot handle someone disagreeing with you then you need to stay off the internet.

It amazes me that people want to cry and say you are rude when you do not agree with them.  smh

I know how it works.  I don't know what your problem is or why you cannot do it but I personally have done it and it worked fine.  Or they took it at the window at my local post office.  And I got the little green card back in the mail a few days later.
