I have never really found that a healthful habit. You can’t give blood to a pregnant woman within 3 whole days after taking aspirin because some oral medications can screw up a baby as that baby keeps developing.

You mean you can't donate blood period? I doubt people would even tell the truth on that.  They won't let you just donate blood to be used immediately.  It has to be tested for disease.  I have heard in the past that it has to be at least 3 months but don't know if that is correct.

I had a girl I worked with this past winter that was sick with a bad cold and her doctor would not even agree for her to take any cold meds because she was pregnant.

If you mean me personally, no. There are many precautions everyone have to take in order to give blood because anything can run through the bloodstream and become contagious.

Has anyone heard that taking a low dose asprin a day is no longer recommended?

I have been doing it for over a decade because my diabetes doctor said I should, but now I am wondering if I should look into stopping.

I've read that it's no longer recommended because of the increased risk of bleeding.  Aspirin is a blood thinner, besides being a pain medication.

I stopped the daily dose years ago, when I had a cut that took forever to stop bleeding.  Scared me.

No, I was meaning you said you cannot donate blood to a pregnant woman if you have taken Aspirin in the past 3 days.  Well you have no way of knowing who the blood would go to.  SO that would make me think you cannot donate blood at all if you have taken Aspirin in the past 3 days.  That was the question.  I have never donated blood so I do not know what all questions they ask.  I do know they ask about illnesses.  But a lot of people do not know they have something going on.  And they lie.  So they blood is tested.

I think they watch for pregnant women when sending the donation if you say you took aspirin that recently. However, I do understand your point. Sometimes, people who need blood receive a wrong type and die as a result.

I don't get that either.  They should type the blood before they give it to you and type the blood they are giving the person.  Also don't really understand how mixing two types could kill you but I do know it can.

There is such a thing as clumping. That’s when someone receives blood with antigens foreign to that person’s blood type, and antibodies meant to fight against the antigens try to destroy those antigens.

I hadn't heard this. I was prescribed aspirin daily a little over a year ago.  ???

I just saw it on the news a couple days ago. They said unless you are high risk for certain conditions you shouldn't take it because it can cause more health issues than it helps.

Aspirin, Advil, and Tylenol all interact with the body in different ways so it really depends on the reason for using the drug. A lot of doctors would prescribe it for those at risk for cardiac arrest because it is a blood thinner. That is the same reason why surgeons recommend it for post-surgical patients.
But like others have said, make sure your doctor has recommended the drug you are taking every day and you understand the reasons why!

When you donate blood, one of the questions they ask you is whether you have taken aspirin or anything with aspirin in it in the past X hours (I think it is the past 24, but it might be longer - I don't recall at the moment what time frame they ask about). I always suspected that was more for the benefit of the donating person and the information of the technician due to your tendency to bleed easier with aspirin. But I think everything about your donation is encoded into the unique barcode they put on your samples and supply. So they should be able to yellow flag it as "aspirin tainted" before providing it to a pregnant woman if it is truly a risk to the baby.

I've been taking a daily low dose aspirin for several years. I started doing it on my own due to a family history of heart attacks and strokes and my doctor never cautioned me against it or told me to stop, but I just stopped taking it on Tuesday.  I've also been donating blood for several years and when they review my 'rapid pass' responses at the donation center, they always ask me a followup about my aspirin usage when they see that I answered that question affirmatively. I repeat/confirm that I've taken aspirin and they move right along and strap me in for a withdrawal!

Sometimes I think with all the changes they are doing with medicine is enough to drive you insane if you let it. I worked as a Nursing Assistant for about 20 yrs. I had to leave work because of sicknesses about 9 yrs. ago now. I've been up to like on 34 bottles of medicine at the time till now I've gotten it down to about 12 including all my vitamins and over counter medicine. I started weeding out my medicine by talking to my doctors about what is best for me to stay on with all my health problems the must-have and could we possibly lower some of the dosages on them. Then I went to the side effects I was having with the rest was it worth taking experiencing them side effects. Then I went to common sense and got to where I am today. I couldn't take an Aspirin for a long time because it interfered with another medicine I needed to take at that time. Even after having a stroke I couldn't take it but for so long because at the time I needed to take the other medicine. They ended up taking that medicine off the market so today I can take one. I'm going to keep taking my low dosage Aspirin a day because the benefits of it to me is worth it with my health problems. I'm very prone to have another stroke. I've been through a lot of blood circulation problems. When I take one I feel better. I decided to drop all the Tylenol or Aleve stuff and stick with the aspirin cause I feel I get better benefits so that's what I'm going to do in case something comes up I can't take it again. Hope this helps you in some way.

The thing about flagging it as "aspirin tainted" is people in health care are so careless lately that there is still a good chance it would be given to a woman who is pregnant.  I get that some jobs you can just half @ do them and it isn't a big deal. But some jobs you need to have your head in the game.

For example we had a woman working at a local nursing home who was a known druggie.  The management at the nursing home knew she was a druggie while she was working there.  They did not even care.
