Kelly Catlin: an eye-opening tragedy
« on: March 11, 2019, 10:08:49 pm »
Recently this Olympic medal-winning cyclist succeeded in committing suicide. It just goes to show that anyone can be affected by depression and other mental illnesses, even those who seem to have success and fame. Please if you or anyone you know is feeling suicidal, I am begging you to get the help you need. The world is better with you in it.

I was listening to Karen Carpenter on YouTube the other day sing Neil Sedaka song "Solitaire"It brought tears to my eyes the kind of song it is and the way Karen sang it.

As i am sure many of you know Karen committed a form of suicide from Anorexia.I kept asking myself how could someone be so talented and sing so many beautiful songs with such feelings behind them and not know what she was doing to herself?

May God have mercy on all of them.

Karen Carpenter's voice makes my heart melt into a puddle of goo. A lot of singers have great voices, but not many can really transfer that emotion to the listener.

i saw a song she was singing the other day on fb...in this video you could tell she was a lot smaller...such a beautiful voice to be taken away so young...anorexia is very mind controlling...one of my sisters was anorexic when she was younger..took a long time to heal..and this was 30 or so years ago...she still deals with it in her mind daily..even though her body has recovered...so sad..

I just read about that.  Such a loss, my heart goes out to her family.

Definitely a tragedy she was only 23 and seemed to have everything going for her. More people need to listen to the Michael Phelps commercial and get help.

I  am just so overwhelmed by all of this.  also, non  celebrities, family and relatives deeply affected by depression with grandchildren their children,   Everyone jump on board and start a support group in your community!

Exactly, but also we need to help end the stigma and stereotypes concerning mental illnesses. If getting help for depression is just as acceptable as getting medical assistance for conditions like epilepsy or asthma, all lot of people would be more willing and likely to get the help they need before it is too late.
