How would you react to this...
« on: March 06, 2019, 12:31:36 pm »
This happened to someone I know.

She was working on a temporary job as a contractor in an office doing quality control.  In the office she did not have to wear steel toe boots or shoes but if she was ever required to go out in to the factory area she did have to have steel toe shoes.

Another woman in the office, a self proclaimed boss of everyone else in the entire establishment, asked the new person if her shoes were steel toe.  *They were.  The woman answered the question and said "Yes they are".  So this regular employee (who is in no way a supervisor or boss) reaches down and feels of the toes of her shoes to confirm they are really steel toe.

I was not sure how to respond to that.  I think I would have kicked her in the face.  Keep your hands off my body.  All parts of it.  LOL

Just curious if this happened to you - what would you do?  Would you be okay with that?

Seems a little impulsive on behalf of the the regular employee to take it upon themselves to feel for the steel toe.  Kind of odd for someone to care that much about another employee's footware.  Kind of funny at the same time that she's so passionate over it.  I think if it happened to me I would tell them "if you like them so much I can share a link with you so you can get your own pair to feel."

Crazy person to ignore and go on with your life. You have a funny story to tell about it now. Right?

I think sak4kat's idea was good. There must be a few really good comebacks for something that weird.  ???

I know someone else who works in the same office and she has worked there for YEARS.  The self proclaimed supervisor just likes to control people.  Especially people who come in new.  She tries to control everyone and unless they push back she gets away with it.

It wasn't that she cared so much about the other person's footwear she thought she was going to catch them in a lie.  She is also a huge tattle tale.  This company has contract workers from time to time.  This foot grabbing woman likes to try to control them.  But she is in no way their boss.  And she has been told that before.

The woman it happened to didn't react.  I was just thinking if it were me I probably would --- kick her in the face.

What the crap are you doing?  THAT would make the story much more funny!  For everyone who witnessed it as well. lol

Maybe a fight is what she's looking for.  Sounds like a big bully to me.

May be.  She def is a bully.  I have heard she gets along with very few people in the organization.  She is also, like I said, a huge tattle tale.  And honestly, I wonder if that is not why they keep her around.

We have a person who has worked for the ministry for several years try to buffalo me when I first  volunteered notice 9volunteer) When I stated it was in another department (food)  she is in clothing. she tried  to  tell me what to do. But  I figured the man in control and second in commend were my bosses I went to them. Now  guess what  I am in control of the  whole place when they are not there. Strange how things work.

I would have stopped her.  You have no right to touch any part of my body without my permission.   Someone has to put this woman in her place.

I think most people just tolerate her.  She has had something going with the boss for quite some time so I think that has a lot to do with why nobody really says anything.  I agree with you.  I say they need to put her in her place.  I wouldn't take but maybe one time.

That is sad.  Most places need the volunteers.  So when people who are already there run off the new people who come in then it makes it harder on the ones already there.

Some people are just stupid.  And some people feel the need to "control" others.

I wonder what the regular employee would have done had she felt no steel toe after your friend told her she was wearing a steel-toed shoe. Would she have gone to an actual supervisor about it? I can never understand how people get it into their heads that they are the bosses of other people when they aren't. That used to happen to me when I was a secretary. People would act like I was THEIR secretary when I wasn't and ask me to do computer work for them, etc.

I work in plant where steel toe shoes are required.  I am in the office but when I go into the plant I have to change my shoes and wear the company shoes.  Since they are supplied by the company we have no choice but to wear them and it is part of the company policy for safety.  We are all aware of the rules and know the consciences if we do not comply.  Random checks are done all the time and don't see a problem with it if you are in compliance.   Two warnings are given, then probation and then termination for non compliance.  It is part of the job and if you don't like it then find another job.
