Smoking
« on: March 01, 2019, 03:03:37 pm »
I used to smoke but that was 25 years ago. I quit when my daughter was born. My spouse still smokes but I have never been tempted to light up again. Do you smoke or vape? are you trying to quit or is it too hard?

I don't smoke but my tenant does and it's going to be very expensive to get the smoke smell out of the house when he moves. I doubt even his security deposit will cover it, but I will keep my receipts.

I used to smoke like a chimney. I smoked a pack a day of Viceroy Kings for 32 years in fact. And I quit 20 years ago. If I quit, anybody can do it because I was really hooked on them.

I smoked for 50 years. I got tired of it but had trouble quitting. Had tried 6 times. You name it; cold turkey, the patch, even hypnotism. Nothing worked for long. The last year of smoking, my son bought me a Roll Your Own because cigarettes were getting expensive and I was up to 3 packs a day!!!   I also got tired of a hot ash dropping on my  clothes and burning a tiny hole. Well, my knee sarcoma took me out of the smoking once and for all, since I spent 3 weeks in the hospital and I didn't miss it at all when I came home. My husband had quit 13 years before me and I did feel guilty smoking. I'm off them for 7 yeas as of March 5.

I never smoked and I've heard it is a difficult habit to stop.  I have several family members that have passed from a horrible death because of smoking.

I do neither. I thought vaping would be safer, but I might’ve thought wrong. It seems to have been said in the news that vaping involves chemicals not that dissimilar to nicotine.

I am now 10 months smoke-free.  My husband is 45 days smoke-free now.  I had smoked on and off for years.  My husband had smoked for 50 years.
Have a wonderful day!

I was a smoker for 20 years. Smoked almost 3 packs per day. I know, that's terrible. However, I have not smoked in 17 years now and so glad I quit back then. It was very hard for me to quit but with the help of the patches I was able to quit. I'm on social security only now and would not be able to afford to smoke. I really don't miss the smell of cigs on my hands. I really hated that.

Congrats to the smokers who quit. :highfive: It's your decision and you made a wise one.

I'm also glad of the ones who are not duped by the substitutes they tout as being more healthful than smoking.

Yes I smoke, but have never been a heavy smoker. Even now I  rarely smoke  more then 6 a day. The thing is  my husband is a heavy smoker an every once in a while  during the day I want a taste of one.  But he  did agree to smoke outside and has  cut his smoking down some. But once we get in  the car he  is lighting one up a lot.  He also gets up at night to have 2-3. But he still  smokes outside. I guess it is better then nothing. I never light up.  Lately I have cut down more.

Funny thing, being my age when the Marlboro Man was popular and smoking was not considered bad but an "adult" thing, I tried to become a smoker around the age of 19.  I mean I really tried!  I must have bought 6 packs of cigarettes.  I don't think I ever smoked a full cigarette because I though thought they were nasty, but I looked "kool," ya know! Finally, I was sitting in my car one day with the summer breeze coming through the window, I lit one up, took a couple drags, and said, "I have had it with these nasty things!  I'm done!"  And that was it.  Thank goodness.

The last cigarette I smoked was in April 15, 2012.  It been almost 7 years and I don't regret it one bit.  Every once in a while I still think ... hmm I would like to have a cigarette but it and when I do take that one drag it taste so bad that I never even consider going back to smoking.
