Starting a new job

Not gonna lie, I'm rather scared. I'm starting a new job on March 11th. I was kind of "pushed out" of my current job. My position was eliminated. I'm not happy about it, but it is what it is and I found another job within a week. Any tips for dealing with the 1st day jitters? I know I'm gonna be really scared on at least my first few days.

Just do what comes natural. keep your eyes open , your ears open and take all in. Don't try to accomplish all in a day. You will learn little by little each day and it will become easier.Good luck with the job

You should be happy.  You have said repeatedly how unhappy you were and how much you hated your last job.

You are lucky you found a new job within a week.  Not that easy for most people.

Pray. Try taking deep breaths and this may help the nerves, be attentive and learn as much as possible.  Take as many mental notes as you can.  Watch who you confide in because everyone is not always there to help you succeed.

I have always hated those first days Hopefully some nice people step up and make you feel welcome. Hang in there, you can do this!!!

This is pretty good advice, Brian.  Count your blessings that you found another job quickly.  Just think about being at no or reduced income for what could have been a lengthy period!  Also, is the job in the same category as your last because you will adapt quickly if it is?  Just be friendly, ask questions if you need to, make sure you're on time, and don't confide too much in anyone for awhile. Try to learn and be aware of what they call "company culture," or who, what, where, and why at the company!

That’s great news!  Remember everyone had a ‘first day’. I’m sure you will be fine.  Just be nice to everyone and before you know you will fit right in.  Good luck and keep us posted.

Congrats to finding something so quickly. My son-in-law was laid off from a place he worked at for 15 years due to company soon closing. It took him 4 months to find a new job. If your nervous on your first day just take a deep breath and be yourself. Count your blessings. You could still be looking for a job.

Congrats on finding a new job! The first day is always awkward but just be yourself. I think that's the most important thing. I think showing how hard you work is important too.

Congrats on the new job.  As a person that switch jobs withing the last 6 months I know how you feel.  It was a tad different for me, since even though it was a new job (new office different duties) I knew 75% of the people and managers on the new place, but I was still nervous.  Just do what Bryan said: keep your eyes open , your ears open and take all in. Def agree with not confiding it people.  People are evil and vindictive.  Esp when a new person comes on the scene.  You might be trying to take something from them.  (rolling eyes here)

People like to try to find out all they can about you so they can flap their jaws about you to everybody else.  Seen it happen.
