Is there a way...
« on: February 19, 2019, 10:56:40 am »
Does any one know if there is a way to see the reported number of cases of any specific illness in your county.  For example at the moment I would like to know the number of reported cases of the FLU.  I am not sure how accurate it would be because they are not even testing most people.  They just go by symptoms and give them 2 shots and say you have the flu and send them home with a script or two.  smh.

My cousin's daughter was diagnosed with the flu and they did not test her.  Just went by symptoms.  A couple of co-workers were the same way.

At any rate all the schools are closed because of the FLU EPIDEMIC.  I was not aware of the fact that there was an epidemic in my area.  The last I heard less than 5% of kids were missing school so that doesn't seem like that much.
I looked at the CDC website but could not see anything.

It would also be interesting to know the stats of diseases like Hepatitis or AIDS in my area.  I know there are ways to see aggregated counts but do not know where to find them.

Have you tried online city, county, state and local government accounts?

I would have thought the CDC had that information.  :confused1:

Nope.  I looked at the CDC website.  I can't find anything as far as a site that shows local data either.

I don't think there was ever an 'epidermic" in my area.  The guy over the schools who used that word is obviously an idiot.  From what I have seen it isn't that bad in my area.

I would be interested in knowing the answer to that question. I have never researched it but will do so in the near future, starting with the local CDC

That's a good question... it would be interesting to find out how they get their stats.  Perhaps call the school directly & ask them what information they are using for their classification of a "Flu Epidemic" what sources are they using -- but if the schools are closed, I guess there would be no one there at the school.

The kids were out for maybe a couple days.  I think some of the staff worked.  Who ever answered the phone would not know.  The idiot who used the term incorrectly would not be accessible.  Funny thing is he also said they had an absent rate of 5%.  That is not that many kids or teachers to be absent.

Like I said, I am interested in knowing the stats for the numbers for other diseases such as Hepatitis and AIDS.

That should be public information.  You don't have to tell WHO has it.  Someone who was at the health department supposedly say a paper that was left out that had the number of AIDS cases in our county and it was baffling.

I think it is sad that people with deadly diseases like AIDS or Hepatitis can work in health care, food preparation, or where ever - and they are a risk to other people.

I know this information is available.  I just do not know where to find it.  Like I said, I would have thought the CDC would be a good place to look.  But I could not find anything.

I have heard there are confirmed cases of Measles in my area as well.

Great question but that would mean that people would have to report it and my kids both had the flu but we didn't go to the doctor b/c there was nothing they could do..... good luck with your research

Where I live not only was my daughter tested and diagnosed with flu (Strain A) She was out of commission for 8 days before the respiratory part of the flu let up.  50% of her school has been absent since this thing has broken out here in Illinois.  My boss's husband was just tested and diagnosed with the B strain.  So here in the midwest it's been brutal.  the 50% stat came from the school secretary.

 :clover:          Happy St Patrick's Day!!!

This site has a map of the US and you enter your zip to get the flu results
I don't know this is accurate but you could try it and compare with the CDC

https://www.everydayhealth.com/flu/map/

I also had trouble with Chrome loading this page at CDC giving Flu stats:

https://www.cdc.gov/flu/weekly/usmap.htm

A written page is available here:

https://www.cdc.gov/flu/weekly/fluactivitysurv.htm
