See Live Theater...for Free
« on: February 06, 2019, 10:11:49 pm »
Did you guys know that you can probably see community theater stage productions in your local community for free?

A lot of community theater groups operate as nonprofits. Many, in exchange for some volunteering (running the box office, being an usher, working the concession stand or helping build sets), will provide you comp ticket(s) to the show. Check out their individual websites for more information, but a lot of them have ways to see shows for free.

I've taken advantage of this and have been able to see dozens of without having to pay with anything other than my time. If you love live theater, or know someone in the cast of the show, this is a great way to see them if you aren't ready to pay for the ticket.

We just returned from a trip to Las Vegas and they have "Head Hunters" all over the strip that will give you free show tickets and meals if you attend a 1 or 2 hour presentation for a timeshare. You don't need to buy anything, just listen to their pitch.

That sounds like a great way to see the shows and eat while in Vegas.
Now, all I need to do is get from Minnesota to Nevada.

I don't know if they fly there, but we flew from Portland, OR to Las Vegas, NV on Spirit Airline (The home of the Bare Fare) for less than $100 round trip. The only catch was we could only take a backpack unless we wanted to pay an extra $40 each for a carry on or even more for checked bags. Since we stayed in a timeshare condo and had a washer and dryer in our room, we did fine.

The amazing thing about community theaters is that, despite their actors being mostly volunteers who aren't paid, the productions are typically very good quality. Maybe it's because everyone is there because they have the passion for putting on good performances and are doing it because they really love it instead of it being something they do for money.

I've heard of this but never pursued it.  I understand it is quite an opportunity  ;)

Hey oldbuddy, I checked into Spirit.  They do not fly from Sioux Falls, SD.
Airfares on airlines that do fly out of Sioux Falls to Las Vegas run about $488 per ticket.  I guess I won't be heading south anytime soon.
