Walking with a cane
« on: January 24, 2019, 04:51:12 am »
Do you use a walking cane? If so, do you like the one you use, does it support you well?

I use a walking  cane, but I have a regular cane. I see there are so many different kinds that we can get.

I don't use a cane but my grandmother use to use one.. and she got a really nice one but before the really nice one she had just one of those walmart cane's and it wasn't very sturdy so she changed it up to one of those can'es that you have the tennis *bleep* on the bottom then she got a that sturdy cane and she pretty much liked it.. it was wooden and good on her to walk around with... she even got one of those walker things with the seat where she can just kinda sit and wheel herself or one of us kids would push her.. or she would walk and rest... usually she would use those cart things in the stores to get around the store but sometimes she felt like she wanted to walk.. so she used her cane.. She loved that thing till someone decided to steal it.. Right out of a church parking lot.. very crude.. but i think if you can find a good sturdy cane you'll be set.. or i knew a guy who used like a giant walking stick.. but i'm not sure how many people wanna walk around with a giant stick.. but then again who knows.. It kinda depends on the person and their capabilities. and age and so on..

My sister broke her leg in 2 places a few years ago.  First in a wheelchair, then walker, and then a cane.  She loves cats so I went on Amazon and bought her a cane with cats on it!  She loved it.  Now thankfully she’s ok, no more cane.

Yes I walk with a cane but it isn't supporting me well enough anymore.  I am going to have to start using a walker although I didn't want to but on the other hand I don't want to fall either.  The cane is sufficient from my front door to my car  but any further than that is concerning to me.

I don't use a walking cane but my mother does.  She rotates between using a walker and the cane.  The cane is the type that has three prongs and seems to support her well.   :rose: :rose: :rose: :rose:

My grandmother used one when she was alive but preferred a regular cane or walker to stay mobile.

:)      ;D      :)   I don't have to use a walking cane at this point of time in my life. Of course age might be a factor for this question.  I'm hoping that as time passes by I won't need a walking cane, but that's just a hope anyways.  :)    ;D     :)

I don't walk with a cane. My father-in-law did use a cane to help him keep balanced. He never left home without it.

No, I don't use a cane but my mom recently bought one to help her with her balance.  I feel more comfortable knowing that she has that to rely on.

I have bad knees but I don't use a cane. Where I live the roads are mostly sand so I use a wooden walking stick. It comes in handy when I'm walking the dogs because there are coyotes out here. They're brazen and it helps to wave it around and remind them my dogs aren't going to be food for them.

When my mom lived in assisted living, I got to observe many different kinds of canes and walkers.  My mom used a regular cane for many years until she graduated to a walker. She used to complain about the clicking noise that her cane made. I do believe the canes that have the three "feet" on the bottom are sturdier than a regular cane, and maybe give you more support. BTW, she lived to be 105 and never broke a bone until a week before she turned 100, (which healed up nicely!)

I will be using a walking cane in a couple of weeks.  Right now I am using a walker  I just had total knee replacement surgery on my right knee.  I had it done on my left knee in June.  The can I will be using is just a regular cane.

Both of my parent use canes, we upgraded them to the hurricanes, the ones with 3 legs/.  The advantage is they do not fall down, you set them and they stay, was tough some times before if they dropped it  They also seem to give them more stability.

I've never used a cane. Crutches, yes, when I broke my leg.  My sister-in-law uses a cane.  She has MS.
