Do You Stay in (or at Least Close to) Your Country?

Well most people will lie about drug use and sexual activity.  They do testing on the blood or are suppose to.  But when it is for emergency use it would be hard to get the results back because doesn't it take like 3 months for the AIDS test?

No, it is quicker than that. I donate blood about every 8 weeks or so and the Red Cross app will notify you as your donation passes through the various stages: (1) donation "you've donated" (2) processing "your donation is being processed" (3) testing "your donation has been tested" (4) storage "your donation is ready to help save lives" (5) completion [they tell you what medical facility and city your blood ended up at].  I don't know the exact timeline, but my last donation has been at the fifth stage for a least a few weeks now. I had it drawn on November 9th and I have another scheduled for this coming Monday.  So we are probably talking 3-5 weeks tops for the testing.


Even in an emergency situation, I don't think they typically can use fresh donated blood that hasn't been fully tested. When they talk about a blood shortage when natural disasters strike I think (could be wrong here) they are talking more about forecast. They will be using much more of the fully processed and tested units than typical so supplies are gong to be more depleted and they need more volunteer donations to bring supply levels back up to where they need to be for normal need levels.  (That's all just assumption on my part and I may be way off base).

I think it is pretty cool that you can see where your donation went.  I also did not realize when there is a disaster and they are asking for donations and saying there is a shortage that the new donations are for future use because of fear of depleting the current supply.  I always thought it was for immediate use.  And had wondered if it was tested and how it happened so quickly.

Acts 15:20. “Abstain . . . from blood.” God gave Christians the same command that he had given to Noah. History shows that early Christians refused to consume whole blood or even to use it for medical reasons.

I know that your opinion will likely differ  but I think most would agree that there is more than one way to interpret that 'commandment'.


I interpret it to mean we should refrain from ingesting blood - as in eating it for nourishment.  A transfusion for a life saving medical procedure is quite different (in my opinion).


As for the early Christians' refusal to use blood for medical reasons, I think we can safely say that the medical knowledge of early Christians (and the knowledge of how blood works, its biological purposes, and how to properly and safely use blood for medical purposes) and the medical knowledge of 21st Century doctors (who routinely save lives through the use of donated blood) are quite different.

There is nothing in the Bible that says you cannot donate or receive blood.  Some people have a warped way of saying what the Bible means.

You are the one that brought up the blood issue.Nothing wrong enlightning someone of the danger of it and biblically supported.If 1 person heeded how God feels about it it was worth putting up.

Yes, I did start the blood issue, but I was just explaining why I have to be either in the USA or Canada (at least for now). I don’t want this discussion to be all about giving blood.

Just to be clear, that was my guess and not necessarily fact. But it seems like a reasonable assumption given the other timeline I gave.

It makes sense. Because they could not use blood that had not been tested.

                I would think if you would like to travel to another country, and its something you really want to do, I would do it, whether or not you have to wait to donate blood later than normal. I mostly stay in the country that I was born.
