Freeways or streets
« on: December 18, 2018, 04:45:21 am »
Do you like to take the freeways or streets to work? I do not care for freeway driving, but also I worry about being stuck on the freeway, due to accidents, weather issues, etc. At least on the streets there are other options to get around.

I have a short trip to work - 4 minutes.  It is on a 4-lane highway.
Have a wonderful day!

I don't go to work anymore, but if I do need to decide I use Waze on my phone and it tells me which one is better at that exact moment.

The trucks and cars can be crazy here! I have to be careful all the time.

I take the streets when I need to get somewhere fast.

lol I can't take a freeway to work. Most people who work locally would not be able to.  I take the quickest route.

There could be accidents or hold ups of any kind any where.  And lately it is or can be just because people are stupid. We have not had too many ignorant protests blocking streets lately though.  I have a way to fix that....esp if I am the lead car LOL

I avoid freeways even if I'm going a fair distance, they kind of freak me out. I would rather leave a few minutes early and take surface streets.

I agree with OldBuddy. My daytime job moved locations. The old location was four miles from my home. The new location is roughly fifteen miles away and generally requires use of the highway. It took me seventy seven minutes to get home the first day because of traffic and was quite frustrating. I spoke to a work colleague the next day and they turned me on to Waze. I have yet to have longer than a twenty eight minute commute since using the application. Waze even alerts me to where accidents are and police may be waiting for my car (which is typically speeding). Waze has introduced me to ways home that I did not even know existed and made it kind of fun because I can confirm where accidents are and police cars lie awaiting their next ticket. I learned to drive in Chicago so I tend to be a little more aggressive in traffic. I am suited to highways/freeways.

I work about 5 miles from my home so it is all street driving.  No major highways needed to get there.

I work about 10 miles from home. I take the freeway in the morning, because the traffic usually isn't too bad at that time. On the way home, the traffic is unpredictable. Some days I can take the freeway, some days I take streets. Even when I take streets, it takes just as long to get home if not longer. But at least I have more options that way and more neighborhoods to explore. Crawl-stop-crawl on the freeway is unbearable.

I take the freeway (although here we call them highways) - it's WAY faster. There are too many lights on surface streets. I do usually take the side streets when we get a lot of snow, however.

It really all depends on the traffic where I'm at but most of the time I go streets.

I always travel on streets instead of the freeway.  I feel safer since it seems people love to go way over the speed limit when they are traveling of the freeway.

I always take the backroads so I can go slow and enjoy the scenery.

It doesn't shorten my drive to work, it's still a 15-20 minute drive whether I take the freeway or the streets
