The problems with hourly jobs are:
           Not enough hours
           Few benefits, if any
           No seniority
The employer thinks: You are a temp

Totally depends n the job.  If you work part time in retail or fast food then this applies.  If you work a factory job you will work 40 plus hours a week.  And ALL jobs have seniority.  Some take it more seriously than others. And the only job I ever was thought of as a TEMP was a job where I WAS a temp.

If you were salary, and had the job I mentioned before where you were paid $500 a week and were expected to work 11-12 hours Mon - Sat you would cry about that too.
  It's too many hours
  Not enough pay
You are not allowed to take off unless it is a doc excuse or somebody dies

Oh and he said I would need to PROVE the death.  SMH.  Unless his attitude changes he may never fill that position.  Personally I would rather work for myself. lol

The point to be taken from Countrygirl's last post is that regardless of the circumstances, there are pros and cons to either scenario and the person working is more easily going to see the negatives of their own situation and "how great" the other worker has it.

There was nothing positive about the job I mentioned above. The guy was hateful in the interview and wanted me to work 7:15 to 5:30 M-F and the Sat 7:15-2:30. I was not allowed to EVER miss work. The place was open 8-5 but he wants me there at 7:15 to be sure I am going to be on time. lol

He interviewed about 40 people and as far as I know has not filled the position. Most salary jobs do have a higher base pay but not when you have to work 60 plus hours. It would depend on the situation. Some salary jobs are good.  I know a woman who works salary and she has it pretty awesome. She takes off when ever she wants to. Works when she wants to.

Personally I would rather get paid by the hour and get OT for time over 40 hours. Most I have talked to that work Salary work a lot of hours.

Sure there was.  He was willing to pay you in exchange for performing work.  That is a benefit. The conditions and atmosphere sound awful and you are probably correct that he will have trouble filling the job under those terms.  But I guarantee you that there are thousands of people who would be willing to fill the position if it was offered to them (albeit, many of them undocumented aliens).

I doubt it. There is a lot I left out. He actually sat there and told me he gets mad and will scream and yell at me and cuss me and I have to sit there and take it. And he will come back and apologize later but that is just who he is.

If we get busy and you don't get a lunch break missing a meal won't kill you.

I want you at work 45 minutes early so that I know you will be here on time. I can be late but I live farther away and that is acceptable.

You will work every weekend. I, no I don't work weekends. I have worked x number of years and I deserve to have those off.

If I don't think you are working hard enough for the sale I will jump in and take it away from you.

I can't even remember now what all.  He was horrible.  Yes he may get somebody to take the job but if they only stay a week then what good is he doing?  Yes, I guess getting paid $7.69 (not much over the fed min wage) an hour and horrible working conditions is something to be grateful for lol.

No, there are not thousands of people willing to take the job. He can't even get a handful to consider taking the job. I would think this would make the owner take a look at this manager.  Because THIS department is the only one that they can't get anybody to take the job.  And no it isn't because people are lazy. I would think if the interview were taped and played for the owner they may be looking for a new manager. :D

I am not sure I would take this as an hourly job at $15 an hour. haha

I started out with hourly wages and ended with a yearly salary.  Thankfully, my yearly salary was much larger than the money I made on an hourly basis.

Sounds like maybe he should be featured on an episode of Undercover Boss?

I've always worked hourly jobs, and I would love to have a salary job.

I prefer hourly because you get overtime; salary you can work over 40 times and some jobs won't give you comp time. So hourly is best for me.
