Osteo can get pretty bad, especially in active joints like the knees once the cartilage is entirely gone and it is bone on bone.  There is no cushion left.  Have you had x-rays to show what the condition of the joint is?  If you are bone on bone, you may be a candidate for knee replacement.  These are usually very successful nowadays. Try to remain somewhat active as you will just stiffen more and more if you don't.  Actually, people often find that some activity helps to "work out" the stiffness.  Nonetheless, once you are bone on bone only a knee replacement will fix the problem.

Right now I have Osteopenia, not quit as painful . but I am taking mega does of  calcium and Vtiamin D to combat it and slow it down. I am on my feet  almost every day and once in awhile at night it is hard to sleep with the pain. Then I take pills otherwise I don't.

I feel your pain as I have it too. The heating pad as well as using the patches give me some relief.

Glucosaine Chondroitin has helped me sooooo much with Osteo.

I was in such pain years ago, that I would cry as I stood up.

A friend brought me some of the Glucosamine Chondroitin, and my life has changed so much for the better.  Get it at Walgreens or Wal-Mart.

I started with one tablet 3x a day for a couple months, then slowly worked down. My pain is much better, but still take one a day at least.

I use a htg pad too, but not for Osteo very much. Mostly just to take the chill off.

I suffered for about 5 years and the pain got so bad that salan pas didn't help anymore.  I'm allergic to sulfa drugs and most arthritis medicine has sulfa in it so I can't take it.  I finally had a total knee replacement in June on my left knee.  I'm having the right one done in January.

Over the counter remedies can only help you for awhile.
Talk to your Dr. to find out what is wrong with your joints.
X-rays, physical therapy and other approaches: heated pads and
ice packs, your Dr. will recommend depending on your situation.
