Has Anybody Else Here Been a Victim of Identity Theft?

I was in 2015, just left the Inbox Dollars site, because the questions from surveys they required you to fill-out got way too personal and intrusive.

With issues like Identity Theft and Fraud out there, you really have to be careful about what you share on-line.

I joined Fusion Cash because it comes with an endorsement from the Better Business Bureau. It's probably the most trusted site you can join for this kind of thing.

Other-wise you wind-up with relentless e-mail spam, bomboarded with telemarketing calls, over-bearing advertising at your snail mail address, etc. Your personal information can be abused by third parties the surveys share with, etc.

You have to set boundaries with how much you're willing to share and if a certain survey asks for too much information, skip it. Better safe than sorry.

Not to say it can't happen, but I have been wide open with my information for over 10 years on Fusioncash and never had a problem like you describe, but I have made a fair amount of money.

I have not. However, my husband has had our bank account hacked twice. The second time was worst than the first. It has both times been his debit card.

I am curious as to what type of questions were too personal and intrusive?  It can't be any worse than the questions in surveys on this site such as:

what is the bank you use
what are all the types of accounts you use
what credit cards do you have
how much do you owe on them
do you own a gun
who did you vote for in the last election
do you have an alarm system in your home
what all electronic items do you own
how many hours a week do you work outside your home

I mean all of those are pretty personal.  I have not really got that much spam e-mail, nor snail mail.  I do get a lot of crap from an insurance company that I done a survey about. I get a ton of phone calls but so does everyone else. I do not answer any of them.  Let it go to voice mail then block the number. 

Pretty much everything is online anyway.  It's like people who get so freaked out and won't write a check or do any banking online because they don't want their info online. Well FYI it is online because the bank has it online you just choose not to access it.

I never have had my identity stolen but my sister has.  She found out when she tried to file her income tax return year before last.  I still say her *&%$@# ex-husband had something to do with it.

Thank God I have not, but I know it is a nasty business, I have a friend that was declared dead because of Identity Theft, when she tried to get SS benefits at age 67 was told that she was dead and could not apply, it took her 3 years to clear the issue.

Just from a girl who used my credit card number to buy something. She charged a huge television set on my account. I had to track her down myself because no one would help me. I called the cops down in Florida and told them where and what time she was going to pick up the item (I was notified of the pickup item online, so she obviously wasn't a seasoned criminal).

When I called them to see what had happened (hoping they would arrest her), they said that she said someone else asked her to do it and just let her go. Was that really justice?

The worst  is when you get gas and scan your debit or credit card . They put something on the machine  that copies your info. Happened  to my son twice. The bank allerted him fast before any problems.

A couple of times. Once by my  ex-husband for a big screen TV. took for ever to get that one cleared up. then darn it  a few years someone opened a charge account at a bank where I  was living. But I did not use that bank and when it was opened I happened to be out of town for a couple of months and could prove it. they did  catch that person. But when my  son was in the hospital dying, someone went into his room and stole his wallet and later on  charged some gas on it. Now that is about as low as  a person can go.  took my daughter-in-law  some time but got it  straightened out.  Just what she needed on top of everything else. I hope whom did it rots in he**.

Yes, Twice I had to get another debit card,but when I checked my account there was nothing suspicious so my bank was taking precautionary measures.

I can't say that I have.  I don't do on-line banking and the websites I use like Amazon, JcPenny etc, I never save any credit cards to the account.

Several years ago, before we knew all the ways our accounts could be hacked, my tax return was taken right out of my checking account at a credit union.  That was right after we got debit/credit cards for the first time.  The full ckg acount number was at that time printed on receipts, not "x'd" out.

I went to an credit union officer there, and she pulled up my account.  We were able to see that the hacker was taking out of my account as we watched.

Pay Pal and the credit union took over, and my funds were quickly restored.

A year ago, I had my debit credit card number hacked, alone with several other accounts at a different credit union, and we got it handled very quickly. All my funds restored within 48 hours.

I prefer to handle most transactions in cash now.  Both times were a nightmare.

I do have an odd story, had a couple of some-kind-of-friends, time went by no incidents than one day, I thought they were going to ask me to go with them to some where, but no, and I seen some pics they had, not to be sneaky, pics where out and nobody knew I seen them. I seen they had my style of stuff and my hair. I quivered, I acted like I didn't know them, I moved and never stayed in-touch.  You know you have to have proooff must stay on guard.   This wasn't cyber-thief.
