Do you actually eat home-baked goods you get as gifts
« on: November 23, 2018, 12:28:52 pm »
Do you actually eat the cookies or banana bread or whatever your neighbor/coworker gives you for the holidays, or just say thank you and then throw them out later?

If I don't know the person that well, part of me is always paranoid whether they washed their hands etc. when they made them.

I also have that thought while icing my own sugar cookies for the neighbors. "They'll probably just throw these out but oh well"

I guess it would depend on who gave it to me. If it were a close family member I would eat it.  If a co-worker gave me something I most likely would not eat it.  If a neighbor gave me something I would def throw it in the trash.

Ahhhhhh, a fellow germ-o-phobe!  I always wonder about the cleanliness of people who have prepared my food, even in a restaurant.  You don't know what's going on behind closed doors.  But then, I've never adhered to the five second rule, either, which many people will quote to me if they drop something on the floor and pick it up to eat it anyway!  Once my college daughter had her friends at our house and when one dropped an M&M on the floor, and picked it up to eat it,  I yelled at him, "Don't eat that!" and they all thought it was so funny.  Guess that's the way I was raised!

For the most part. I know the people and will eat their goodies. Just as  they will eat mine. In fact I am already getting request for for home backed goodies and candies. and it is not even Christmas yet, I have not even started. guess I had  better get the candies  down up soon as I  can keep them nice in the freezer. But the baked ones I make them just before I give them away.

Absolutely. Our neighbor brings us a homemade cheesecake and fudge around Christmas. It is wonderful.

We certainly eat them.  I don't ever remember receiving an eatable gift from someone I don't trust.

It depends on what is baked or cooked, sometimes I will not eat it, if it is too sweet etc..

:turkey:   :snowman:   :turkey:  Lucky for me I don't get to many baked goods as a gift. I don't bake for friends or coworkers. I'll buy something from the store vs making it myself. I don't have that kind of germ issue. I've eaten a bunch of pot lucks, that I don't worry that much about that to much.  :turkey:   :snowman:   :turkey:

If I know where it's coming from, then I will eat it.

I guess it would depend who gave them to me - most of the time I will at least try them to be polite and if they are good I will finish them :)

First off I have to tell you I love animals and they have free run of my home, but my cats are not allowed on my kitchen counters.   A few years ago one of my co workers brought rice crispy treats that she made.  Another co-worker took one, bit into it and pulled out a cat hair.  The girl who made them just laughed and said something like my cats love to sit on the counter and watch me.  After that I only eat things from people i know and trust.  I'm not about to find my cats hair in anything and I certainly don't want to find anyone's cats!

I don't have a germ issue.  I just don't trust my neighbors or co-workers. lol
