What if you seen this
« on: November 18, 2018, 12:52:37 pm »
So I was in the grocery store this weekend and the girl working in the meat department is in the front of the meat case with fresh raw meat in it.  She has the case open and is rearranging the fresh fish.  She had gloves on and she wiped her nose on the back of her gloved hand and then right back to handling the fish she goes.

I called back and informed the manager.  He seem irritated but didn't seem apologetic to me.  He said I will take care of it.
I figure it will (as far as he is concerned) end there.  I am thinking about calling the corporate office tomorrow and telling them also and just telling them I would like somebody to follow up.  I want to ensure this is taken care of.  It is no wonder everybody is sick. Don't wipe snot on your hand then touch fresh food people are going to purchase.

Businesses need to make sure their employees understand those gloves are not to protect your precious hands. How can people be so disgusting.  Sad is she works in the meat department so all the meat in the packaged there containers she has likely done this before.

Just curious what any others would do if they had seen the same thing?

I might have said something to the manager but not sure if I would go beyond that...probably was just subconscious and not something she realized she was doing...I agree though, people need to be careful, especially this time of year with all the sickness going around.....

I'm not sure what I would've done  I'd like to say I would've complained to the manager, but I'm not sure I would or if it would do any good anyways.  (I wouldn't be buying fish there though).  :o

I applaud you for bringing the incident to the attention of the store manager.  He should speak to his employees but there is no guarantee that he will.  Go ahead and follow up by calling corporate.  They should know how important it is to practice safe and clean handling of fresh meat/fish.

It really doesn't matter if she didn't realize she was doing it. She wiped snot on her hand and went back to handling food that people will be eating.  She needs to realize this is serious. And so does the manager.

She handles all the fresh meat. She works in that department. They also have the meat related salads like a crab dip and a couple other things that are really good.

You seem to be missing the point. If you purchase any meat it is the same difference. SHE works in the meat department and she helps package the meat that is for sale on the shelf.   I am also curious as to how you buy canned fish. They do not even make canned fish. I am not talking about tuna. lol

Thank you. This is what I wanted to know - if anyone thought I should do that.  I think they need to make sure the incident is taken seriously.  It would be the same if it were the bakery or deli or where ever.  They need to make sure the employees know you do not wipe your nose on your hand or your gloved hand and go right on handling food.  If you need to take the gloves off, wipe your nose, and WASH YOUR HANDS, and then put on CLEAN gloves and go back to work.  At this same store I had a girl change the trash with gloves on and then fix my food with the same gloves on (yeah I left it on a shelf in the store - called manager about that as well) and another twice had to tell the employee to change their gloves before they started getting my food from the counter.  IT looks to me like some serious attention needs to be given to this particular store.

Sadly, it is most likely the same every where.  People are lazy and they don't care.  It is just a job and probably doesn't pay much over $8 if that much.  They don't care.  And like somebody else said they do it at home and they just don't think.  I see people wiping their nose on their hands all the time.  I have been sick for 6 weeks and still am not completely over it.  I do know where I got it from.  But you can't get over it when you got snot rags wiping their snot all over everything then others touch it.  Germs don't die instantly.  So this makes me wonder what all goes on that we don't see.  (If I had a puking smiley I would insert it here)

Wow.  Thank you for warning the customers. You should have reported it to someone else.  I have been told that you can report incidents like this to the Health Department. But unfortunately it probably would do not good.  I do think I will call corporate tomorrow.  I want to make sure they understand this is serious.  I am not trying to get her fired.  I just want them to talk to ALL THE EMPLOYEES WHO WORK WITH THE FOOD and make sure they understand not to wipe their nose on their hands when they are handling food.  I def remember this woman and will not get anything if she is there.

I live in a small town.  We have Walmart and ONE grocery store.   And then a small (suppose to be discount) grocery store but they are higher than Walmart and the store is nasty.  So it isn't like I can just go somewhere else.

I shudder to think what goes on with our food.  Every where we eat out, places where they package meats at the store, even package houses or factories.  They have proved where people pee in the food in factories. May not happen very often but it does.  And I can't grow all my own food or milk and pasteurize my own milk.

Sadly this goes on everywhere. I live in a tiny town 4000 people, there is one store (we have 2 grocery stores) that repackages their chicken if its sat packaged in the showcase a few days and is at expiration date, by dunking it in a bleach mixture, then repackage it. I was told this by someone who worked there at one point.

I try not to think that all stores with meat cases do this :(

I'm sure this happens in a lot of places, including restaurants.  It is disgusting and employers need to really stress the importance of how to handle the meat.

Same thing you did call the manager and maybe corporate.  That is why I wash all my meat when I get it.

My sister and I went to Wendy’s last year,  and I ordered a salad.  I had ate about 1/2 and noticed something black and shiny in it.  I dug around the salad and pulled out a 2 inch black plastic/rubber foot of some kind.  I immediately called it to the manager who said it probably fell from the machine above where they make the salads.  Her concern level was zero.  Lucky I had taken pictures from my phone before I gave the salad back.  Yes, she comped the order but it was like no big deal on her part.  I did notify corporate, send the pictures and told what the manager said.  They told me they were very sorry, would look into it, and sent me a bunch of coupons.
