Everyone has become scammers & cheats since trump took over the White House!

Landlords have always wanted tenants that can make their rent payments.

Lots of renters have been wronged in the past so they are covering themselves

I know its crazy, When I rented my first apartment, the rent was $300.00 now thats unheard of. The rent is more like $900-1300 for what I once spent $300 on

My first apartment was a fourth floor walkup (no elevator) with a pull down bed in the living room for $90 a month in the Tenderloin District of San Francisco, but when I got out of the Army we had a two bedroom house in Los Angeles for $50 a month, so it has a lot to do with where you live.

I think that a salary requirement of three times the rent amount parallels mortgage debt to income requirements where many programs require that only thirty two percent  of your income be encumbered by debt. It seems to make sense given the need for transportation, health care, clothing, utilities, and food. All of this being met with seventy two percent of your income after taxes. The number of foreclosures that result from higher debt ratios skyrockets which, I would imagine, mirrors the rental market. I do not know how single people are able to afford to live given current housing costs. There are subsidized housing programs and lower cost housing developments but it seems that these generally attract an element of undesirable neighbors. Good luck to you.

It's a real B***h.  That is why I decided to take control of how I wanted to live and spend my money-I purchased a house.  The cost is ridiculous and it's legal.  You got take back control of your money.

As much as you may not lie the idea, have you considered getting a roommate? With two incomes, you might have more rental options available to you.

Rental properties are very expensive and it isn't far.  I tried Craigslist and the rental properties there to are very expensive. The people that have the place to rent thinking that they are getting rich fast bit really they are taking advantage of the people who want to rent their place

As someone who owns real estate, I can say it's just a measure given to protect investors and ensure payment.  You'd be amazed at the losses landlords take.

But as a former renter I understand your frustration.  My honest opinion: stop renting.  Look into alternative housing (such as an RV or convert a storage unit) or live WELL below your means to save up to buy something paid in full.  Best thing I ever did.

I didn't realize this was going on.  How can anyone afford to live in an apartment these days.  This generation will never get to leave home if they have to pay out money like that.  How can landlords charge that kind of money and sleep at night because that's a mortgage payment.

I made sure I saved up the first, last and security deposit before I  went and rented an apartment. Once in it wa no problem to  pay my rent and such. But having  worked for an apartment rental . I understand why they want  it. You  just need to see some of the places when the people move out.  Filthy. I now  do property  management on a house here. And when the renter moved out she left it filthy  it took me 4 days to clean it up and she was  ticked because she got charged for it. It was in the rental agreement. I wanted to only charge  min. wage but the owner would not go for it and paid me $15.00 an hour. So the renter lost her deposit. Hate to say it but she still owe the owner  some money and this was my niece. No more renting to family and giving them a break, Only to be used.

Perhaps your local housing department can provide some sort of assistance ; rentals  are extremely high everywhere.

I am amazed that rentals go for more than my mortgage payments were/are.  Maybe get a roommate, save everything extra to put down for deposit.  Keep looking, maybe you need to find a converted garage, or mother in law unit.  I know you will find something.

It is crazy.  A friend of mine moved to New York City.  It was insane how much he was supposed to make in order to qualify.  It made me wonder how anyone rented a place.

I agree; I lived off 1/3 of my income for a few years to save to buy a home paid in full.

It's a real B***h.  That is why I decided to take control of how I wanted to live and spend my money-I purchased a house.  The cost is ridiculous and it's legal.  You got take back control of your money.
